\"angels_gregory_the_great_1\"<\/a>T<\/em>hough angels have often come to aid <\/em>God\u2019s <\/em>f<\/em>aithful people, says St. Gr<\/em>e<\/em>gor<\/em>y\u00a0<\/em>the Great, they could not redeem us from sin. Only God himself \u00a0could <\/em>a<\/em>ccom<\/em>plish <\/em>tha<\/em>t.<\/em><\/p>\n

It (wisdom) cannot be gotten for gold\u201d ( Job 28:15).<\/p>\n

What does \u201cgold\u201d mean here but the holy angels? They are called \u201cgold\u201d because they persist in the original innocence in which they were created. They shine with the beauty of righteousness, and they are stained with no impurity of sins\u2014not in the very least.<\/p>\n

But none of the angels were to be sent in place of this Wisdom as the Re- deemer of the human race. To keep us from placing our hope on any of those angels\u2014who, as we have been taught, have often come to our aid\u2014it is said that wisdom \u201ccannot be gotten for gold.\u201d This is as though it said plainly, \u201cWisdom itself will be made manifest to redeem humanity from sin.\u201d No angel is sent in place of him: the creature must be set free by the Creator.\u2019 \u2013St. Gregory the Great, \u00a0Moralia in Job<\/em>, 18.71<\/p>\n

IN GOD\u2019S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though I can never equal the angels here on earth, do I strive to shine with the beauty of righteousness?<\/p>\n

CLOSING PRAYER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord, strengthen me with your Spirit, and send your angels to protect me; for <\/em>I trust not in my own righteousness, but in your abundant mercy.<\/em><\/p>\n
