Vatican City, May 23, 2016 \/ 10:09 am (CNA\/EWTN News<\/a>).- Pope Francis on Monday embraced the grand imam Sheik Ahmed Muhammad Al-Tayyib during a meeting at the Vatican, a move which is being seen as a step toward reopening dialogue between Christians and Sunni Muslims.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur meeting is the message,\u201d the Pope was heard to have said to the imam during the meeting.<\/p>\n

The pontiff and Al-Tayyib, who is the grand imam of Cairo's Al-Azhar mosque, observed the significance of the meeting \u201cwithin the framework of dialogue between the Catholic Church and Islam,\u201d said Holy See press office director Fr. Federico Lombardi.<\/p>\n
