Paris, France, Jan 9, 2013 \/ 04:02 am (CNA\/EWTN News<\/a>).- Supporters of traditional marriage expect hundreds of thousands of marchers to turn out for an upcoming national rally in opposition to President Francois Hollande's \u201cmarriage for all\u201d proposal.<\/p>\n

\tSet to go before France's parliament Jan. 29, the draft law proposes to redefine marriage as a union \u201ccontracted between two persons of different sex or of the same sex.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tThe law would also allow \u201cmarried\u201d same-sex couples to adopt children while also replacing gender definitive titles such as \u201cMother\u201d or \u201cFather\u201d with \u201cParent 1\u201d and \u201cParent 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tSome opponents of the proposal say doing so would strip society of sexual differences and would create framework for a \u201cnew anthropological order\u201d based on sexual preference rather than unique \u201csexual otherness.\u201d Opponents also say the move would deny children the biological right of having a mother and father, and that the proposal should have been presented as a referendum to the people.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cLa Manif Pour Tous\u201d or \u201cMarch For All,\u201d a demonstration organized by French satirist Frigide Barjot \u2013 whose real name is Virginie T\u00e9lenne \u2013 drew tens of thousands of supporters in the regional demonstrations held throughout France in November and December.<\/p>\n

\tA modest estimate for the first national rally to be held Jan. 13 is projected to draw some 350,000 supporters, one of the organizers, Lionel Lumbroso, told CNA Jan. 4.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cThe bigger we are, the more difficult it will be for the government to ignore us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\tAlthough the \u201cvast majority of the base is Catholic\u201d and founder Frigide Barjot is a Catholic re-convert, Lumbroso said that the movement represents a much greater diversity of the French people because people of different faiths and political beliefs are coming together for a common goal.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cThat\u2019s an aspect that\u2019s striking to our movement,\u201d Lumbroso, who pointed out that he is an Agnostic of Jewish descent, said. \u201cWe have had the distinct feeling of working toward national re-cohesion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tFor this reason, all those involved must carry only banners only bearing \u201cLa Manif Pour Tous\u201d slogans or logos and are encouraged to wear blue, white or pink \u2013 a spin on France's colors of blue, white and red.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing is we\u2019re uniting through republican values,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\tThe group plans to march along three different routes until they converge on the Champs de Mars to meet under the Eiffel Tower.<\/p>\n

\tControversy grew as Presidente Hollande voiced support for education minister Vincent Pallion's letter that warned Catholic schools not to discuss same-sex marriage, reminding them that they are \u201cunder contract with the state\u201d and \u201cmust respect the principle that everyone has a right to free thought,\u201d The Connexion reported Jan. 7.<\/p>\n

\tPallion's letter comes after Secretary of Catholic Education, Eric Labarre, wrote a letter to Catholic school leaders suggesting they organize discussions about gay marriage.<\/p>\n

\tDemonstration organizer Barjot has called on the debate to be open \u201ceverywhere and in all schools,\u201d the AFP reported.<\/p>\n

\tAlthough the group has rallied in favor of traditional marriage, they are adamant in opposing homophobia \u2013 a charge that many in favor of the president\u2019s proposal have brought against them.<\/p>\n

\tLumbroso said the movement is not about opposing gay individuals, but rather about preserving \u201cinstitutions that bring structure to our society.\u201d<\/p>\n
