Vatican City, Mar 16, 2013 \/ 08:11 am (CNA\/EWTN News<\/a>).- Pope Francis told thousands of journalists today he loved them and thanked them for their recent work.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI love you so much and I thank you for all that you have done,\u201d Pope Francis told over 5,000 journalists today at Paul VI Hall in the Vatican.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWe aren\u2019t called to communicate about ourselves, but on this trinity of truth, goodness and beauty,\u201d he told the journalists at 11:00 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n

\tThe newly elected Pope from Argentina spoke to them and their families on the third day of his pontificate.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cYour work needs study, sensibility, experience like all other professions, but needs to also give special attention to truth, goodness and beauty,\u201d said the Pope.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cThat is why we are so close because the Church exists to communicate precisely this,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

\tHe thanked the journalists for their \u201chard work\u201d covering the days since Benedict XVI announced his resignation adding that it is not easy to communicate to \u201ca vast and varied public.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\u201cBe sure that the Church reserves a big attention to your precious work,\u201d said the 76-year-old Argentinian.<\/p>\n

\tThe pontiff told the professionals that Jesus is the center of the Church and not himself.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWithout him, Peter and the Church would not exist nor would they have a reason for existing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\tPope Francis also explained that he chose the name Francis because of what a cardinal told him on the day he became Pope.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cOn the election day I had next to me the Archbishop emeritus of Sao Paolo and the prefect emeritus of the Congregation of the Clergy, Cardinal Claudio Hummes, a great friend,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWhen the voting resulted in the election of the Pope, he hugged me, he kissed me and he told me \u2018do not forget the poor,\u2019\u201d said the Pope.<\/p>\n

\tHe explained that the words \u201cthe poor\u201d remained stuck in his head and he suddenly thought of Saint Francis of Assisi.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cMan of poverty, man of peace, man who loves and guards creation,\u201d said Pope Francis.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cAnd in these times we don\u2019t have a good relation with creation, right?\u201d he asked the crowd.<\/p>\n

\tHe explained that it is the poor man who gives \u201ca spirit of peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\u201cOh how I would like a poor Church and for the poor!\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

\tThe new Pope said some people joked saying he should have named himself \u201cAdrian\u201d because Adrian VI was a reformer.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cAnother told me I should be called \u2018Clement XV\u2019 to revenge myself from Clement XIV who suppressed the Jesuits,\u201d the Pope exclaimed laughing.<\/p>\n

\tThe Pope then personally greeted several Vatican journalists including a blind man and his yellow Labrador, which he patted.<\/p>\n
