Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jun 25, 2012 \/ 04:04 pm (CNA<\/a>).- Reports are surfacing in the Argentinean media that Bishop Fernando Maria Bargallo of Merlo-Moreno has submitted his resignation after acknowledging a romantic relationship with a woman.<\/p>\n

\tAlthough no official announcement has been made, local newspapers such as Clarin cite Church sources who say Bishop Bargallo admitted to the priests of his diocese that he was involved in an inappropriate relationship. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\tLast week, photos appeared showing Bishop Bargallo and a woman on a beach in Mexico. He initially acknowledged that the photos were of him but that the woman was only a \u201cchildhood friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tThe 57-year-old bishop had served as president of Caritas Argentina until last year and is currently president of Caritas Latin America. He has served as bishop of Merlo-Moreno since May of 1997.<\/p>\n

\tClarin claims Bishop Bargallo has tendered his resignation to the Nuncio in Argentina, Archbishop Emil Paul Tscherrig.<\/p>\n
