{"id":7326,"date":"2010-08-10T13:05:53","date_gmt":"2010-08-10T17:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christandpopculture.com\/?p=7326"},"modified":"2010-08-10T13:05:53","modified_gmt":"2010-08-10T17:05:53","slug":"you-create-worlds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/christandpopculture\/2010\/08\/you-create-worlds\/","title":{"rendered":"You Create Worlds"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>I essentially agree with the premise of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.next-gen.biz\/blogs\/you-build-worlds\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this article<\/a> that what makes video games such an interesting medium is the worlds that are created within. \u00a0Of the top few most memorable games I have played, I would say each presents a compelling, imaginative, or realistic world that kept me coming back again and again. \u00a0Yet, as Chris Dalen points out, there doesn\u2019t seem to be a large emphasis on the building of the game world in the industry. \u00a0So with that said, here are a handful of memorable game worlds that are worth visiting:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Bioshock 1 and 2 \u2013 I will never forget my first venture into Rapture\u2013this world is a testament to the outcome of godlessness and human hubris. \u00a0The world is haunting and provides the necessary backdrop for one of the best plots I have ever played through. \u00a0The second installment is perhaps less chilling because we have been to Rapture before\u2013but well done nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Half Life 1 and 2 \u2013 Black Mesa and the subsequent City 17 are fascinating places to visit\u2013the amount of detail that was put into both of these games at the time at which they were released is astounding and the result is a mysterious world that kept me progressing through until the very end.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Super Mario 64 \u2013 the playability of this games years after its release proves that a game doesn\u2019t have to feel real to be worth visiting. \u00a0At the time of its release, Mario 64\u2019s was a massive but familiar world that just never seemed to cease to be interesting.<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0Red Dead Redemption \u2013 \u00a0What Rockstar excelled at in the world of RDR was building a truly ruthless wild west world complete with various types of wildlife, town ruffians, and vastly beautiful western landscapes. \u00a0I seriously could have played RDR for hours just riding around on my horse taking in the sites.<\/p>\n<p>What game worlds do you find memorable or impressive\u2013I just sort of came up with this list off the top of my head, I am certainly leaving out some gems\u2013so drop a comment and let me know what game world you found compelling or interesting.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I essentially agree with the premise of this article that what makes video games such an interesting medium is the worlds that are created within. \u00a0Of the top few most memorable games I have played, I would say each presents a compelling, imaginative, or realistic world that kept me coming back again and again. \u00a0Yet, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1220,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7326","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-asides"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.1 -
