{"id":1839,"date":"2014-10-21T19:05:41","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T00:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/christiancrier\/?p=1839"},"modified":"2014-10-21T19:05:41","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T00:05:41","slug":"top-7-bible-verses-about-your-heart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/christiancrier\/2014\/10\/21\/top-7-bible-verses-about-your-heart\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 7 Bible Verses About Your Heart"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are 7 of my top Bible verses about the heart.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The Heart is Deceitful and Wicked<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Jeremiah 17:9-10 \u201cThe heart is deceitful above all things,\u00a0and desperately sick; who can understand it?\u00a0 I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You think you know your own heart?\u00a0 Think again!\u00a0 Our hearts can deceive us so easily.\u00a0 God says \u201cwho can understand it?\u201d but He answers His own question by saying \u201cthe Lord search(s) the heart.\u201d\u00a0 Many who profess Christ but live like the Devil have deceived themselves into thinking that they are Christians but their mouth betrays what\u2019s in their heart.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Don\u2019t Let Your Hearts be Troubled<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">John 14:1 \u201cLet not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The disciple\u2019s hearts were troubled because of the uncertainty of their future.\u00a0 Jesus had been telling them that He was going away and that they couldn\u2019t go where He was.\u00a0 Put yourself in their sandals\u2026they had been with Jesus for over 3 years and now He was going to leave them.\u00a0 What were they to do?\u00a0 What were they thinking?\u00a0 Jesus, knowing their hearts, perceived that they were very troubled over this and so that\u2019s why Jesus told them to not let their hearts be troubled over His leaving.\u00a0 He told them that they already believe in God so they should also believe in Him.\u00a0 Do we not have troubled hearts too, much like the disciples did?\u00a0 We must stand firm in our belief in Christ because as He told the disciples, He also tells us <span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u201cIf I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going\u201d<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2014:3-4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">John 14:3-4<\/a>).\u00a0 Do we really believe this?<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The Lord Weighs the Heart<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Proverbs 21:2 \u201cEvery way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is similar to what Jeremiah wrote (17:9-10) because we often might seem to be doing the right thing \u201cbut the Lord weighs the heart\u201d and knows what is really in it.\u00a0 We might think we are making the right choice but God can see into our hearts and see our intents, thoughts, and motives.\u00a0 That\u2019s why when he weights the heart He knows what\u2019s in it.\u00a0 That\u2019s why we must not lean on our own understanding but instead <span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u201cTrust in the LORD with all your heart. \u00a0And do not lean on your own understanding\u201d<\/span> (<a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/proverbs\/3-5.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Prov 3:5<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">God Knows the Heart<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">First Kings <span data-term=\"goog_832680663\">8:39<\/span> \u201cYou know what is in everyone\u2019s heart. So from your home in heaven answer their prayers, according to the way they live and what is in their hearts.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here the word \u201cheart\u201d is used twice which emphasizes the fact that God knows what is in every human heart.\u00a0 He will answer our prayers but only \u201caccording to the way [we] live\u201d and according to \u201cwhat is in [our] heart.\u201d\u00a0 If our motives in prayer are for His glory, then God will answer that prayer but if we are seeking our own glory, God will frustrate our plans and not answer our prayers.\u00a0 This is because God will not ever share His glory with anyone (Isaiah 428, 11).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Purify the Heart<\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Psalm 51:10 \u201cCreate in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This may be the best chapter in the entire Bible on repentance and it points to Who is the One Who creates a clean heart in us.\u00a0 Naturally, it is God and by His forgiveness and this forgiveness can renew us to a steadfast spirit.\u00a0 Steadfast is an interesting word that David uses because it means to have a new resoluteness, to stand more firmly in purpose, and to be fixed in a certain direction.
