The following is an entry from The Christophers\u2019 \u201cThree Minutes a Day\u201d book:<\/p>\n

During the mid-1950\u2019s, a group of atheists demanded that the words \u201cunder God\u201d be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. New York State Supreme Court Judge Isadore Bookstein ruled against the atheists.<\/p>\n

He stated that while the First Amendment guaranteed a citizen\u2019s \u201cright to disbelieve,\u201d it gave the disbeliever \u201cno preference over those who do believe in God.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judge Bookstein wrote that the atheists\u2019 interpretation of the First Amendment was faulty. He explained, \u201cIt was conceived to prevent and prohibit the establishment of a state religion; it was not intended to prevent or prohibit the growth and development of a religious state.\u201d<\/p>\n

To grant the request of the atheists, the Supreme Court Justice pointed out, \u201cwould be preferring those who believe in no religion over those who believe,\u201d and would invalidate the President\u2019s oath of office, the Declaration of Independence, and the oath of the court, all of which invoke God.<\/p>\n

The battle to acknowledge God in the public square continues today. Exercise your right to believe. <\/p>\n
