The\u00a0Alfie Evans tragedy<\/a>\u00a0should be a wake-up call to any Americans who might be tempted to become complacent about the increasing role of the federal government in healthcare.<\/p>\n

A single-payer, nationalized health care system isn\u2019t a bad idea simply due to economic concerns. The scariest part of government healthcare is the potential for situations just like Alfie\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Alfie was suffering from an undiagnosed degenerative brain condition, and his parents wanted to fly their son to Italy for experimental treatments.<\/p>\n

But the British government wouldn\u2019t allow it.<\/p>\n

Because the Brits have permitted their national bureaucracy to control the healthcare decisions of its citizens, they also had the power (supposedly) to decide what was in the \u201cbest interest\u201d of little Alfie. The boy died several days after the government ordered his life support to be removed, and now his parents are left to deal with the aftermath.\u00a0 The Sun<\/em><\/a> reports:<\/p>\n

Alfie\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0mum Kate James wrote: \u201cOur baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30 am. We are heart broken. Thankyou everyone for all your support\u201d.<\/p>\n

Family friend Laura McKenzie said: \u201cTom and Kate really appreciate everyone coming and showing their love. The whole world showed how much Alfie was loved and we\u2019ll never, ever, ever forget him or his name. No one will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Floral tributes and balloons were also left outside the doors of Alder Hey, which some of Alfie\u2019s Army had tried to storm last week.<\/p>\n

One card left by charity fundraiser and local celebrity Speedy Mick read: \u201cRest in peace, little Blue Nose. You shone brighter than the sun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cAlfie you stole the heart of the world. We love you and will always fight for you. Forever in our hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n

One card read: \u201cWe fell in love with a boy we never knew. Fly high little man you\u2019ll never be forgotten.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The statists in D.C. would like nothing more than to have that same kind of power over American citizens. They believe that Americans aren\u2019t capable of making their own decisions, and they, like the British bureaucrats, believe they know \u201cwhat\u2019s best\u201d for the 320 million people living and working in communities across the country.<\/p>\n

But We the People aren\u2019t giving up without a fight. Millions of people have joined the Article V Convention of States movement to ensure that situations like Alfie\u2019s never happen here.<\/p>\n

A Convention of States is controlled by the people and the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can restore the original, limited-government vision of the Constitution and ensure that the feds have no role in the healthcare decisions of the American people.<\/p>\n
