Look around the community and observe our young people; then ask yourself, \u201cHow is my child\u2019s behavior being observed, when I\u2019m not present?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>

\n<\/span> Starting Monday December 17th through Friday December 21, 2012 is, \u201cCome Closer to Your Teen Week.\u201d<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0We have a viral problem spreading throughout urban communities. Our young adults have embraced a lifestyle, that\u2019s producing negatives statistics and\u00a0causalities.<\/span>
\n
\n<\/span> Social ills evolving into\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Unemployment<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Incarceration<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Drugs<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Abuse<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Online Bullying<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Pornography texting (Sextexting)<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Stress Management<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Mental Health\u00a0<\/span>Issues and more<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During\u00a0<\/span>\u201cCome Closer to Your Teen Week,\u201d <\/strong>let\u2019s identify our teen\u2019s core values (skills, interests, and values) and close the generation gap between us and our children. Think about it, we use to be them<\/em>. Help them see, believe and live a life of dignity, love and respect. Help them reach goals and achievements, we envisioned for them at birth.<\/span>
\n
\n<\/span> You say, how I can begin this conversation; <\/em>simply say \u201cI love you and you are my child\u201d<\/em><\/strong> and then develop a discussion around the following tenets\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Identify Core Values<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Motivation<\/span>\u00a0|\u00a0<\/span>Spend Valuable Time<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Close Gaps<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Encourage<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Create Safe Spaces<\/span>\u00a0|<\/span>\u00a0Learn their interests |\u00a0<\/span>Create Incentives and<\/span>\u00a0Promote Education<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Let\u2019s not be blameworthy with them, rather let us take the accountability that will help progress the conversation and create the necessary safe space for trust. Yes we are overworked, plus we\u2019re all are victims of broken promises and relationships. Our children are the fallout victims and the results of those choices.<\/span>
\n
\n<\/span> Empower, O<\/em>ur Young People!<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Let\u2019s utilize those same \u201cConflict Resolution\u201d and \u201cLife Skills\u201d training tools; that are presented at work, at a seminar, during those religious and\/or academic retreats, or YouTube for personal development. #Havepatience and know it will not be an easy task, but it is a \u201cmust do\u201d for the survival of urban \u00a0youth, not to be mistreated due to a virus of ignorance.<\/span>

\n<\/span> This CALL TO ACTION <\/strong>is for all ethnic groups, social status and backgrounds, no child is excluded. Let it grow into more Care, a Support of Love and Empowerment!<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
