That\u2019s Ever-Trumpers, not Never-Trumpers. \u00a0Jonah Goldberg, my favorite NT, is right<\/a>. \u00a0There comes a time when you have to pull the ripcord. \u00a0Like most Never-Trump types, Goldberg isn\u2019t a fanatic. \u00a0If Donald Trump personally cured cancer or rescued a child from a burning building, Goldberg would, as I would, give credit where it is due.<\/p>\n

But there is almost a frightening level of cultic blindness that is happening with some of those defending Trump at all costs.\u00a0During the election campaign, my oldest boy noticed that Trump and his supporters had effectively redefined \u2018establishment candidate\u2019 as anyone who wasn\u2019t Trump. \u00a0And being establishment, they could therefore be ignored on the grounds that they were establishment. \u00a0Therefore, it stood to reason that anyone not Trump who said anything critical of Trump (or who said anything at all for that matter) could simply be ignored. \u00a0That\u2019s one way to win an argument.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m the first to try to give a president the benefit of a few doubts. \u00a0Whether Bush(es), Obama, Clinton, or whoever. \u00a0No president is perfect. \u00a0And no president is going to be 100% wrong. \u00a0Nonetheless, it\u2019s how those balance out. \u00a0The great presidents accomplished great things that overshadowed their failures. \u00a0The good presidents at least came out ahead in the good\/bad ratio. \u00a0The bad ones? \u00a0No doubt they managed a couple noteworthy accomplishments. \u00a0I still think GW Bush\u2019s speech at Ground Zero following the 9\/11 attacks was a rousing, inspiring speech. \u00a0Far better than what he did afterwards. \u00a0But credit where it is due. \u00a0Just not enough to balance out everything he did wrong. \u00a0But you have to admit when wrong is wrong.<\/p>\n

For instance, there is nothing at all wrong with admitting that Trump is failing as a leader. \u00a0Sure, he\u2019s rolled back a slew of things Obama got passed with pen and phone. \u00a0But what of it? \u00a0Most critics pointed out Obama\u2019s reliance on that approach was due to his own failures as an actual leader. \u00a0If that\u2019s true, then since Trump\u2019s only accomplishment is undoing what Obama had to rely on due to a lack of leadership skills suggests, at best, Trump has the same lack of leadership skills.<\/p>\n

Admitting the obvious is often a good way toward solving the problems. \u00a0It certainly goes a long way toward maintaining credibility.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
