I can\u2019t help but notice, as I listen to Al Gore sound the clarion call over climate change, how little personal sacrifice is involved in the whole MMGW movement (that\u2019s Man Made Global Warming). \u00a0Really. \u00a0We\u2019re talking about something that could spell the doom of millions and forever alter life on planet earth. \u00a0But where\u2019s the real sacrifice? \u00a0Even people I know who are all \u2018MMGW!\u2019 don\u2019t seem to adjust their lifestyles. \u00a0They still have big screen TVs, or take vacations, or use electricity and transportation for frivolous pursuits (just converting to \u2018green energy\u2019 and then maintaining the same lifestyle doesn\u2019t count \u2013 that\u2019s like exercising and to compensate for overeating). \u00a0If it\u2019s that big of a deal, shouldn\u2019t we see WWII levels of personal sacrifice on the part of everyone? \u00a0We\u2019re trying to save the planet after all.<\/p>\n
If you have made what radical adjustments you can, don\u2019t use energy needlessly, forgo all frivolous expenses where carbon footprints are concerned, \u00a0oil lamps and all, then good for you.<\/p>\n
Same with other darlings of modern righteousness. \u00a0Lots of hooha about immigrants. \u00a0Well, let one live with you. \u00a0Or ten. \u00a0Or if you\u2019re someone like J.K. Rowling, open up \u00a0your houses for a bus full of immigrants. \u00a0That\u2019s simple enough. \u00a0Especially if you call the slightest disagreement with\u00a0your opinion\u00a0on the subject a grave sin.<\/p>\n
If you have done such things, and you have an immigrant or two living with you, then good for you. \u00a0I tip my hat and have no more to say.<\/p>\n
Or my favorite crusade sans sacrifice, population control. \u00a0Talk about something that requires 0% personal commitment. \u00a0We need fewer other people in the world! \u00a0Wow. \u00a0That takes a lot. \u00a0There is nothing there that comes close to personal investment in the cause. \u00a0I can\u2019t say, in this case, you might have made a sacrifice. \u00a0There is none to make.<\/p>\n
