Is being discussed in this article<\/a>.\u00a0 In it, the belief advanced by Pope Francis, the Catechism, and the modern Catholic majority is that Muslims and Christians worship the same God.\u00a0 Well, yeah.\u00a0 In a sort of \u2018altar to an unknown god\u2019 sort of way.\u00a0 In the same way that pagans, Buddhists, Hindus, Druids, theists, Deists, and spiritualists all essentially worship, or at least seek, the same God.\u00a0 There is one God after all, and it is that God who draws all of His creation back to Himself, whether we know that is what we are looking for or not.<\/p>\nUnfortunately, that\u2019s increasingly not what I get the feeling people \u2013 Catholics \u2013 are saying.\u00a0 They are almost acting as if they want to elevate Islam to that of Judaism, if not higher.\u00a0 In fact, as in the article, appeals are constantly made to Moses or Abraham or David.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t believe in a Triune God did they?\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0 Did they?\u00a0 Well, technically, they did, they just didn\u2019t know it.\u00a0 They saw the Messiah and proclaimed Him, even if they didn\u2019t realize it.\u00a0 Because they were the Chosen people.\u00a0 That is why their Sacred Texts aren\u2019t simply important books that are good for reading and studying, but were elevated by the Church to the level of Holy Scripture. <\/p>\n
In fact, the equating of the Old Testament and the Koran is one of the most frequent things I\u2019m seeing in these debates.\u00a0 Just because the Koran doesn\u2019t talk about a Triune God, neither does the Old Testament.\u00a0 Again, correct me if I\u2019m wrong, but yes the Old Testament does.\u00a0 It just doesn\u2019t know it yet.\u00a0 And also, unless I\u2019m mistaken, we don\u2019t consider the Koran to be Holy Scripture like we do the Old Testament. <\/p>\n
Likewise, I notice a sort of underlying\u00a0idea that the Trinity is\u00a0just how we Christians \u2018get God.\u2019\u00a0 That\u2019s our way of describing Him.\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 That\u2019s because the Trinity is not just our way of working things our, but our feeble language\u2019s ability to grasp the fundamental nature of God.\u00a0 Jesus is not just God\u2019s kid that some may or may not attribute to God\u2019s genes.\u00a0 And yet, as I watch the debates roar across the modern Catholic world, I\u2019m seeing arguments that almost suggest the Trinity, like the Old Testament, is just another way to grasp the God that all religions eventually get to, however they choose to describe Him. <\/p>\n
Some years ago, a woman in a parish Bible study said she heard a priest on Catholic radio.\u00a0 According to her, the priest said that apart from\u00a0the Marian dogmas, there was no real difference between Islam and Catholicism.\u00a0 What!!!!\u00a0 Yep. Now, I hope she merely misunderstood the priest.\u00a0 That\u2019s my hope.\u00a0 But it\u2019s indicative of the state of things that not only could she think she heard something like that, but that she actually believes it and has no problem with it (which she didn\u2019t). And there were plenty of nodding heads at that study that seemed to agree.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
So whatever the final conclusion of the Church, I would suggest that clearer language be used.\u00a0 Assuming, of course, that we don\u2019t believe that the New Testament and the Trinity are just our little game, and others\u2019 games are just as good.\u00a0 If not, we better start making some changes in how we are presenting this little dilemma.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure everyone who is listening is hearing what is intended if that\u2019s not what we, in fact, intend. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
