The way most of us were introduced to Mr. Rickman.\u00a0
1946 \u2013 2016<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

When I heard David Bowie died<\/a>, I was sad.\u00a0 I never knew a time when I hadn\u2019t heard of David Bowie, Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust.\u00a0 And yet when he passed, I was sad as one normally is to hear that someone they had heard about has died. <\/p>\n

But I saw that Alan Rickman died<\/a>, same age and reason BTW, and for some reason, I\u2019m just bummed.\u00a0 Until I was in college \u2013 until Die Hard<\/em> to be precise \u2013 I had never heard of Rickman.\u00a0 True, like most people who watched Die Hard<\/em>, I was blown away by his diaboilically swave Hans Gruber to WIllis\u2019s boorish and bombastic John McClane.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Over the years we would see him pop up, notably as the one bright and shining moment in Kevin\u00a0Costner\u2019s otherwise excruciatingly bad version of Robin Hood.\u00a0 But for most my boys\u2019 age, he will fover be Severus Snape.\u00a0 Perhaps it\u2019s because the whole Harry Potter era brings back fond memories to me when my boys were all starry-eyed over Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and the whole fantasy world that was spinning around them in those crazy, hazy days of their youth.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 But I\u2019m more than sad.\u00a0 I\u2019m bummed by his passing.\u00a0 He left us with some awesome villains, anti-heroes and even hopless romantics.\u00a0 As the article says, truly a one-off actor of his time.\u00a0As an\u00a0example of that something that seemed to endear him to many, here is a letter<\/a> he wrote to Harry Potter fans at the close of filming the final installment.\u00a0 \u00a0RIP Mr. Rickman and God bless and keep you and your loved ones.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
