Don\u2019t admit you are one first. \u00a0Following the Comedy central or Glenn Beck approach, just say you\u2019re some nobody important slob laity<\/a> throwing out opinions. \u00a0This allows you the forum of a pundit or apologist, with the post-modern desire to avoid accountability. \u00a0Which fans love.<\/p>\n

Then, know your audience. \u00a0In the end, the Catholic Church, in America at least, is hard to the Left. \u00a0 Most Catholics are more liberal than conservative<\/a>. \u00a0And it isn\u2019t hard to see the Church is making strides in that direction. \u00a0You want numbers, you go for the largest market.<\/p>\n

Now if you really want to get a following, then declare yourself a conservative and then spend almost all of your time trashing conservatives<\/a>. \u00a0That is important. \u00a0It\u2019s common today. \u00a0Declare your demographic to be as bad as everyone else says. \u00a0Those not in the demographic love it. \u00a0And then take the next step and praise the demographic you insist you have nothing to do with! \u00a0Look at how Ron Paul and McCain were loved by the press. \u00a0The Media love them. \u00a0At least until you run for office. \u00a0And if you aren\u2019t running for office, then there\u2019s no reason to change. \u00a0It is also beneficial because you can insist it\u2019s all just part of being a bold non-tribalist. \u00a0Another important factor in the new \u2018non-hyphenated Catholics\u2019 movement. \u00a0That is, everyone is a tribalist, but I\u2019m just pure, unblemished Catholic. \u00a0Many wishing to thank God for not being like those hyphenated Catholics over there will surely flock to the banner.<\/p>\n

And of course, dispense with the old \u2018let\u2019s reason together\u2019 approach to discourse. \u00a0Lay it on, judge ruthlessly, and declare that there are only two groups: those on board with the Truth (that is, your interpretation of things), and the stupid, evil people<\/a>. \u00a0If the bulk of those stupid, evil people are your own demographic, you\u2019ll have quite a fan base, and do quite well \u2013 as witnessed by the sheer uptick in engagements and venues you\u2019ll be offered. <\/p>\n

FWIW, when you have multiple sources of income, and are seeing an average of three or four speaking engagements a month at $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 base per engagement according to your own website (even assuming some are for free for charity sake), however, I\u2019d suggest that the description \u2018 lower middle class<\/a>\u2018 no longer applies. \u00a0Even assuming living in a high expense city and 1099 income. \u00a0At least in the world of the Faith.
