Is on display<\/a>. \u00a0Torture is bad. \u00a0Got it. \u00a0I was shocked at how many conservatives jumped on board that bandwagon. \u00a0I understood. \u00a0It was clear that many were more concerned with scoring points against Bush than protecting America, and I think in desperation and fear many embraced what they never would have embraced. \u00a0But desperation and fear make bad reasons for embracing moral stances.<\/p>\nThe A-Bombs were bad. \u00a0Got it. \u00a0I don\u2019t know another way, given the knowledge we now have that suggests Japan\u2019s post-war take on events wasn\u2019t always the most accurate. \u00a0Apart from pacifism and \u2018just let\u2019m die\u2019, don\u2019t know what we could have done. \u00a0But I\u2019ve never imagined it was a wonderful thing to cheer about.<\/p>\n
War is bad. \u00a0Of course. \u00a0Who wants war? \u00a0Though some of the bygone attitudes surrounding war: sacrifice, honor, loyalty, duty (words seldom used in modern discourse) are quite good. \u00a0And again, pacifism or war? <\/p>\n
The death penalty is bad. \u00a0In that I wish there were no crimes that deserved it, yeah. \u00a0And I like mercy over execution. \u00a0But historically the Church has understood the need to protect the innocent in a fallen world. \u00a0Now that the Church is wanting to change, I can understand the debate. <\/p>\n
Some, however, can\u2019t.\u00a0So we have a reminder why the Catholic Church has the dubious distinction of being the only major world religion with its own official Inquisition. \u00a0As one who has been accused by the author of the piece of wanting to increase human slaughter, simply because I question the Church\u2019s reasoning for suddenly wishing to abolish the death penalty, I can understand a little better how some of those moments in Church history took place.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
