Here\u2019s an article that just popped up<\/a>.\u00a0 No clue.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if the man is just tossing out interviews left and right, or if the Press is scouring anything they can find and releasing it as \u2018the Pope just Changed Church Teaching!\u2019\u00a0 I trust the press to tell me what\u2019s going on like I trust my lottery ticket to contain the winning numbers.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

If this article is anywhere close, there\u2019s not a whole lot to say.\u00a0 Like so many things, it depends on what is meant more than what is said.\u00a0 For instance.\u00a0 Protestant Churches sometimes speak of being Welcoming and Affirming.\u00a0 OK.\u00a0 Now that was actually code for \u2018we support gay rights and gay marriage.\u2019\u00a0 More than that, A I personally discovered, it was also a not too subtle code for \u2018if you don\u2019t support gay rights and gay marriage, we will neither welcome you nor affirm your homophobic bigotry.\u2019\u00a0 <\/p>\n

So there you go.\u00a0 A couple words that mean about the same thing to most people, used for entirely different reasons.\u00a0 These statements about women from Pope Francis \u2013 assuming they are accurate \u2013 could mean nothing at all.\u00a0 They could mean everything.\u00a0 It\u2019s really all about what Pope Francis means when he says such things. <\/p>\n

My only concern is that he does seem to take the stereotypes of traditional terms used against the faith, accepts that those stereotypes are the appropriate definition, and then goes onto dismiss those terms.\u00a0 Servitude vs. service?\u00a0 I\u2019m sure we could split linguistic hairs.\u00a0 But beware.\u00a0 Those hearing this might be able to sail entire fleets through the loophole of interpretation that such a comparison invites.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
