A week ago we had no idea if we\u2019d even bother with Fathers Day. \u00a0But praise be to God, things have calmed down. \u00a0Oh, we still have much on our minds, many healings and much health to pray for. \u00a0And that doesn\u2019t include the fact that our life is still only 50% stable to begin with! \u00a0But somehow or another, messy, sloppy, crazy that it is, we\u2019ve made it this far. \u00a0And I have much to show for it. \u00a0A great family, greater kids, a beautiful wife, a home, cars, a super-cool backyard, and we are making it day by day. \u00a0Yes, I still miss my Dad. \u00a0For just one more hug or \u2018I love you\u2019, I don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do. \u00a0Even now, a couple years later, I still have moments where I can\u2019t believe he\u2019s gone. <\/p>\n

I had one of those dreams a while back. \u00a0A realistic one, where it seems real enough. \u00a0And he was there, in the later days with his Alzheimer\u2019s, but there nonetheless. \u00a0We were going someplace for the kids, like a Chuck E. Cheese or similar. \u00a0I constantly had to watch over him and keep him from wandering away. \u00a0Even in the dream it got frustrating! \u00a0But the kids were all there, the family, my adorable wife, and Dad. \u00a0The last part I remember we were in some cavernous hall filled with games like video games (and yet not video games). \u00a0There was an opening in the wall, a passage or something. \u00a0It went back, like a dungeon, and then turned and went down a flight of stairs into the darkness. An employee was there saying something unintelligible. I wondered \u2018what the heck kind of place is this!\u2019 \u00a0Then I turned to make sure Dad was there. \u00a0He was, wandering about. \u00a0I went to get him and bring him back to the family. \u00a0And then I woke up. \u00a0The realistic ones are always the bad ones, because then you have to come back to grips with reality. \u00a0And yet, it was so realistic, I almost felt like I had been with him a while. Silly I suppose.<\/p>\n

But even with him gone, I still have a great family. \u00a0My wife is a gem, I got the better end of that bargain, nobody disagrees. \u00a0The kids are each a blessing \u2013 teenage issues and all. \u00a0And since things prayerfully have settled down health-wise at this point at least, I had the chance to listen to a concert by each of them (with our twelve year old having to reduce the repertoire due to to his biking injury). \u00a0Clarinet and piano renditions of Joplin, Chopin and themes from the movie The Hobbit<\/i> and Inception<\/i>. \u00a0A splurge of some fresh salmon for dinner, and a day to relax. \u00a0Later on, a rousing round of \u201cThe Settlers of Catan\u201d (I lost), and finishing up with Chaplin\u2019s classic The Kid<\/i>. \u00a0Not bad. \u00a0When one looks across the global landscape, it\u2019s easy to realize not bad at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

In his rascally prime as I try to remember him. \u00a0He is still missed.\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

It tasted better than it looked, and that\u2019s no easy accomplishment.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n
