So our interim priest, in addition to promoting a couple upcoming events, gave a kudos to Dads. \u00a0No problem. \u00a0But have you ever heard something that just raked on your last nerve as soon as you heard it? \u00a0While giving a \u2018bravo for fathers\u2019 cheer, he said Dads need to be models, not critics. \u00a0Don\u2019t be a critic he said, kids need role models.<\/p>\n

Boy! \u00a0I almost stood up right there. \u00a0We all freaking need critics. \u00a0Critics are good. \u00a0Criticism is good. \u00a0No, it\u2019s more than good. \u00a0Constructive criticism is oxygen. \u00a0Not being perfect. \u00a0Not being flawless. \u00a0Not being able to create my own universe in six days ex nihilo<\/i>, I need some advise at times. \u00a0Sometimes I need a little good old criticism. \u00a0I need to know I did wrong. Am being bad. \u00a0Have failed. \u00a0And how to do better. \u00a0To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, criticism, for want of a better word, is good. \u00a0Criticism works. \u00a0When done properly, for the right reasons, and with the purpose of helping and improving in love.<\/p>\n

I know, I shouldn\u2019t get to heated about it. \u00a0If I get that much, I should take it to him. \u00a0But he\u2019s probably not the problem, and I doubt he meant much by it. \u00a0Sadly, however, I do think we\u2019ve adopted that in our modern generation. \u00a0We are an age that hates criticism because it\u2019s like saying we\u2019re not perfect. \u00a0Or we somehow need to do something different, or do something at all. \u00a0Somehow, we look at criticism as a bad, an evil, a relic of bygone days that needs flushed down the tubes of history. Whether we believe it or it\u2019s just a cheap way of saying \u2018I get to do what I want\u2019, I don\u2019t know<\/p>\n

Fact is, there was a time when it was seen as a mark of adulthood to take criticism and accept it and learn from it. \u00a0To take it like a man! \u00a0And since I\u2019m not perfect, I may not like criticism, but sometimes I might need to hear it. \u00a0Just like my boys may not just need a role model. \u00a0Sometimes, they may need to be criticized, as we all do at times. \u00a0I just hope I know when and how, when the time comes, and I never fall into the trap of thinking my kids have a right to affirming themselves so much that it negates any need for constructive criticism.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
