Over at the hilariously titled \u201cFriendly Atheist\u201d, there\u2019s the typical atheist screed<\/a> of \u2018look! \u00a0religion bad and evil!\u201d \u00a0So far, not too many commenters. \u00a0I threw my own two cents worth in, but do so\u00a0anonymously\u00a0 since some of the commenters on that blog downright scare me. \u00a0But here\u2019s the one that caught my eye:<\/p>\n

I am not a fan of child pornography, but I dislike people getting in trouble for porn. Looking at pictures is not the same as performing the acts in those pictures.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A \u201cproblem\u201d with child porn? \u00a0Could we say it a little more forcefully? That\u2019s like saying \u201cI have a problem with killing Jews.\u201d \u00a0Or this, which would certainly outrage the FA faithful: \u201cI have a problem with butchering homosexuals.\u201d \u00a0Really? \u00a0And even that wouldn\u2019t be so bad if it wasn\u2019t followed up with a resounding defense for pornography without clear distinctions between the pornography he praises and that other type he\u00a0apparently\u00a0has some vaguely undefined problem with.<\/p>\n

Again, atheists can be good, moral people. \u00a0But atheists have no reason to be good or moral other than it makes them feel warm and fuzzy. \u00a0Those who choose not to? \u00a0Well, morality is, after all, only an illusion. \u00a0Like religion or anything else, it\u2019s just something we invent to make our drive to pass on our DNA more bearable. When it is no longer advantageous to say child pornography is wrong, then it won\u2019t be wrong. \u00a0And as some of the \u00a0commenters on this and other atheist blogs make clear, when it is no longer advantageous to wear the illusion of religion tolerance then tolerance for religion will have to go.<\/p>\n

Update: <\/b>It looks like at least one bold individual has jumped in to express shock at the idea that child pornography shouldn\u2019t be illegal. Well done. \u00a0Again, many atheists are good people, they just have no ultimate foundation beyond their desire to be good people. \u00a0In this case, a very good person.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
