Yep, my wife and I splurged and treated\u00a0ourselves\u00a0to an actual date for our 20th\u00a0anniversary\u00a0 \u00a0She has wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast our whole life, so I decided to go all out and stay at one down the street, the Winter Street Inn (which I heartily\u00a0recommend). \u00a0Owing to my Mom\u2019s health problems, we didn\u2019t want to be far. \u00a0My older boys could hold down the fort, but we wanted to make sure we were in hearing range just in case. <\/p>\n

My initial plan was to stay at the B&B;, and just wander around the downtown area at night. \u00a0That was when it was supposed to be in the 40s. \u00a0As it turned out, the temps were far colder, so we made a quick dash down the street a couple blocks, had dinner, then came back. \u00a0We spent the evening playing pool and just relaxing. \u00a0It\u2019s the first time we\u2019ve been out on our own for almost two years, at least that didn\u2019t have something to do with a project or errand to run.<\/p>\n

Anyhoo, we woke up and came to the main house (we stayed above \u2018the carriage house\u2019) for breakfast. \u00a0While there, we were joined by none other than the new Natasha Trethewey, Poet Laureate of the United States<\/a>. \u00a0Of course I had to ask what she did in Washington, and that\u2019s when she told us she was the new PL. \u00a0Wow. \u00a0Suddenly I worried if I was using the right fork. <\/p>\n

A very pleasant and enjoyable young lady, we talked about a wide range of subjects. \u00a0She was a good conversationalist, and I tried to respect what she seemed willing to talk about or not talk about. \u00a0Mostly she asked about us. \u00a0It was nice saying I am actually employed now. \u00a0Dee could fall back on homeschooling (which Ms. Trethewey seemed very interested in). \u00a0She was in town to\u00a0deliver\u00a0some talks at local Ohio\u00a0Wesleyan\u00a0University. \u00a0Hopefully she\u2019ll have a nice, timely, and safe trip back to D.C. tomorrow despite the weather.<\/p>\n
