Speaking of listening to different sides of the debate. \u00a0I have almost no dogs, not even a cat, in the whole immigration debate. \u00a0Who am I fooling? \u00a0Right now my wife and I are looking for employment, and it wouldn\u2019t help to have almost any job held by illegal immigrants. \u00a0We\u2019d lose our home if we took such jobs. \u00a0Because of that, I\u2019ve offered few opinions, and have spent little time actually following the back and forth. \u00a0I do know the debate is not the usual one framed by the media: beautiful people who care versus racists who don\u2019t like non-whites.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure some want\u00a0amnesty\u00a0for the best of reasons. \u00a0I\u2019m sure\u00a0some\u00a0want it for more underhanded\u00a0ulterior\u00a0motives. \u00a0But I\u2019m also sure those who are opposed to\u00a0just\u00a0opening the doors or letting bygones be bygones may have reasons that are not racist at all. \u00a0For instance, it turns out that some on the GOP side may actually oppose some of the reforms, not because of evil racist ways, but because they are opposed to the economic policy assumptions of many\u00a0Latino\u00a0immigrants. \u00a0Read it here.<\/a> \u00a0I\u2019m not saying I agree or disagree, but I am saying that there can be other arguments than \u2018the way of holiness vs. the way of evil.\u2019 \u00a0It\u2019s also worth noting that the argument is made that Obama\u2019s health care bill, which includes the dreaded HHS mandate, is supported heavily by these same\u00a0immigrants\u00a0 \u00a0Whether that would matter or not, I don\u2019t know. \u00a0That might fall under that trend I\u2019ve mentioned in the past of the modern Catholic tendency of arguing for the trees rather than the forest. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
