So while spending my days as a full time job searcher or \u2018how the heck can we make enough money to survive\u2019 ponderer, I\u2019ve also been helping get our homeschool academy of excellence off the ground. \u00a0As I said, our decision to\u00a0home school\u00a0was at once long in the making, as well as impromptu. \u00a0Therefore we didn\u2019t have the time to plan ahead we would have liked, and have been winging it as best we can. \u00a0One thing the boys want, beyond actually learning more, is to have more fun. \u00a0This is not accomplished by\u00a0cramming\u00a0studies in order to play more video games. \u00a0But rather finding ways to add flavor, even if not everything has to be on a test. \u00a0This is especially tricky with my oldest\u2019s two AP classes, for he must have the right\u00a0information\u00a0in by a set time according to the AP Exam schedules.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, we\u2019ve found some ideas. \u00a0A rock-candy science experiment here, a design your own medieval castle and village under\u00a0siege\u00a0there. \u00a0And this little gem to give my\u00a0oldest\u00a0a break from the rigors of heavy study during the Napoleonic\/Revolutionary\u00a0periods, designed by Richard H. Berg:<\/p>\n

I was a bit of a wargamer in my day. \u00a0Never got into the\u00a0little\u00a0miniatures, since I lack the skills and artistic talent, not to mention patience. \u00a0I did delve into a more streamlined and simplified system called Flames of War<\/a>, and can handle painting a\u00a0miniature\u00a0Sherman Tank over the belt tassels of a french grenadier. \u00a0But in terms of the little chit games, I had\u00a0several\u00a0 and remembered this one. \u00a0Complex enough to be respectful, but not overwhelming. \u00a0While he\u2019s studying, we\u2019ll play\u00a0through\u00a0with this. \u00a0It\u2019s historical, helps you visualize the actual\u00a0battle\u00a0of Waterloo, and is fun when playing against other people rather than a computer.
