Patty Andrews, of the legendary Andrews Sisters, has died<\/a>. \u00a0Like so many things of that era, it had to happen. \u00a0They were icons of that home front mentality that propelled the US to victory against Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. \u00a0Some wonder if the phrase \u2018the greatest generation\u2019 is appropriate. \u00a0I\u2019ve argued myself that it\u2019s more complicated than a single generation\u2019s accomplishments. \u00a0But there was something about that period, when Americans came together for a greater good, and despite\u00a0missteps\u00a0 errors, and flat out wrong decisions, still, they came together. \u00a0Differences were set aside, and embraced a feeling of unified purpose the likes of which our country never felt before, or has never felt since. \u00a0Now, we sit and watch as day after day, those who made that era what is was pass before us. \u00a0The servicemen and women are leaving us on a daily basis, and most of the celebrities and names of that period have long since passed away. \u00a0I\u2019m not sure who is left now, who would have entertained the troops, or rallied the\u00a0home front\u00a0 \u00a0It may be that Patty was the last of the generation. \u00a0If so, what she takes with her will be more than just the loss of her being with us, it will be the loss of that time when America did the impossible. \u00a0She, and that era, will be missed. \u00a0Thanks for the\u00a0memories.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Andrew Sisters, c. 1947 Patty Andrews, of the legendary Andrews Sisters, has died. \u00a0Like so many things of that era, it had to happen. \u00a0They were icons of that home front mentality that propelled the US to victory against Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. \u00a0Some wonder if the phrase \u2018the greatest generation\u2019 is appropriate.
