I was just informed that a job I had applied for, and had interviewed for, is most likely not going to come my way. \u00a0The resume was praised, the initial interview flawless. \u00a0When I met with three\u00a0department\u00a0heads, I was told after the interview that if it was up to the individual filling the position, I would be hired the next day. \u00a0So what went wrong?<\/p>\n
Ah, now we come to it. \u00a0There is still some slight chance it could come my way, but very little. \u00a0Basically, I\u2019ve been kicked to the back of the line,\u00a0and\u00a0everyone ahead of me now would have to turn down the offer. \u00a0And that would assume I was hired then, rather than the search simply starting over. \u00a0How did it go from \u2018powerful resume, spot-on qualified, we\u2019d hire you tomorrow\u2019 to \u2018sorry, you\u2019re at the back of the line\u2019? \u00a0That\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to find out. \u00a0Something in\u00a0the\u00a0search for references and background checks appears to be the mischief. \u00a0There were five individuals I named as references, all but one of them Catholics I\u2019ve known or worked for since my conversion. \u00a0My credit score is fine. \u00a0My work\u00a0experience\u00a0 by\u00a0virtue\u00a0of my background and the crazy recession, is a bit chopped up I\u2019ll admit.<\/p>\n
So right now it\u2019s either the background check through my work history, or it\u2019s a\u00a0reference\u00a0 \u00a0I ask prayers that this still, against all hope, goes through as we are still paddling upstream and taking on water fast. \u00a0Likewise, I ask prayers that if it is my convoluted work\u00a0history, \u00a0someone will step in who will understand the\u00a0uniqueness\u00a0of my last several years and overlook it (like, say, the diocese!). \u00a0And if it\u2019s a fellow Catholic who I trusted and placed my family\u2019s well being in the hands of, well, all I can say is pray for me, that I keep my cool.
