<\/a><\/div>\nThrough mere coincidence, we planned on seeing Peter Jackson\u2019s take on\u00a0The Hobbit <\/i>tonight on what would have been Tolkien\u2019s 121st Birthday. \u00a0A respectable age for any Hobbit. \u00a0I\u2019m not expecting much from the movie. \u00a0Most of what I\u2019ve heard is 45 minutes too long, with the typical Peter Jacksonian knack for missing the finer points while focusing on 30 minute fight scenes. \u00a0There will be a few wonderful moments, where we\u2019ll get a glimpse of the genius that could have been, then it will deteriorate into a series of adolescent scenes aimed largely at an audience the\u00a0majority\u00a0of\u00a0which\u00a0believes The Empire Strikes Back<\/i> was the worst Star Wars<\/i> movie, and \u00a0The Phantom Menace<\/i> rocks. \u00a0Eh. \u00a0Anyway, happy birthday Professor Tolkien, and thanks for all the enjoyment and profound literary experiences your works have given the world.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
