Making Friends Among the Taliban<\/i><\/a>. \u00a0I wondered how it would work if someone published a book titled Making Friends Among the Nazis<\/i>. \u00a0Maybe in today\u2019s climate, it would be OK. \u00a0After all, time heals all wounds, and perhaps people are starting to look past the one dimensional monster\u00a0portrayal\u00a0of the Nazi\u00a0phenomenon\u00a0and are wanting to delve into what turned perfectly good, thoughtful and well meaning people into the\u00a0epitome\u00a0of\u00a0evil\u00a0in the 20th century. \u00a0I\u2019d be fine with that. \u00a0I\u2019m one who believes in the complexities of history, and feels that our tendency to paint with\u00a0ridiculously\u00a0broad brushstrokes does a\u00a0disservices\u00a0to what we can learn from those who came before. \u00a0As long as we are in an age where we can buddy up with the Nazis, or the KKK, and it is as acceptable as making friends with the Taliban, I\u2019d say we\u2019ve turned some sort of corner, and perhaps it\u2019s for the better. \u00a0If not, however, and if the\u00a0immediate\u00a0reaction is \u2018how dare you!
