So in our ongoing showers of blessings, we have once again received a full broadside\u00a0haymaker\u00a0out of the dark. \u00a0We were informed that our minivan, our dear old family truckster of over ten years, will need a transmission replacement. \u00a0We knew it was probably that. \u00a0My Dad was enough of a mechanic in his day to pass down a little\u00a0knowledge\u00a0to my otherwise mechanically\u00a0incompetent\u00a0ears, and \u00a0I could tell by the\u00a0rattling\u00a0and the shaking and the increasing feelings of stalling at higher speeds that the transmission could be the\u00a0culprit\u00a0 \u00a0Well, it is. \u00a0It\u2019s been verified, and it will cost a\u00a0whopping\u00a05200.00. \u00a0That\u2019s right. \u00a0It might as well be 5 billion. \u00a0We\u2019re taking on water and already sinking fast. \u00a0If things don\u2019t turn around for us, by the first of the year we will begin defaulting on our loans and unable to pay our mortgage. \u00a0Temp jobs have run out, and we still have the issue of medical healthcare coverage to consider. \u00a0So if anyone knows somebody, a major Catholic donor perhaps, who happens to have 5000.00\u00a0burning\u00a0a hole in his pocket, or someone with a decent\u00a0minivan\u00a0they\u2019ve been dying to give away, please feel free to email us. \u00a0It has to be a minivan by the way, because one of the best gifts of becoming Catholic \u2013 our fourth child \u2013 also makes it impossible to travel as a family in anything less.<\/p>\n
All of this, of course, begs an answer to the question: quo vadis<\/i> Griffey family? \u00a0Already,\u00a0people\u00a0are scratching their heads wondering what\u2019s keeping us in the Church. \u00a0I keep telling them the Truth, that\u2019s what. But a\u00a0growing\u00a0chorus of family and former\u00a0colleagues\u00a0and\u00a0acquaintances\u00a0who were skeptical about the whole conversion thing are starting to smack their lips and suggest this proves that our journey across the Tiber was hell and gone from God\u2019s will. \u00a0Why the Church \u2013 not wonderful,\u00a0gracious,\u00a0 generous and loving individual Catholics \u2013 but the Church, as\u00a0manifest\u00a0in the diocese of Columbus, simply has no means, or is not concerned with finding any means, of putting either my wife or I to some form of work, or even short term anything to help weather the storm, is something those who are used to the \u2018don\u2019t just stand there, do something\u2019 mantra of Evangelical\u00a0Protestantism\u00a0are left to\u00a0puzzle\u00a0until their puzzlers are sore. \u00a0So if nothing\u00a0else\u00a0 for\u00a0the\u00a0witness, pray that the Church itself somehow steps up to the plate, while in the short\u00a0term\u00a0 prayers and anyone who can help keep an old minivan alive, would be greatly appreciated. <\/p>\n
