Richard Mourdock has used\u00a0predictable\u00a0language<\/a> to explain that he doesn\u2019t see children as a disease to be cured, but rather sees God\u2019s hands in the creation of life no matter what the origin. \u00a0Not really a big surprise for people informed about religious belief. \u00a0But watching Obama\u2019s once sure victory slipping from their fingers, the media has jumped on this, hoping that our iPad generation doesn\u2019t have the time to think beyond the next iPad, and will simply lump this in with Todd Akin\u2019s statements about rape and pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Fact is, Mourdock is expressing a common pro-life understanding of pregnancy and babies. \u00a0Just\u00a0because\u00a0a pregnancy happens from a rape does not suddenly make the baby therein a non-being. \u00a0The unborn baby is every bit an unborn baby. \u00a0The idea that God is at work is typical religious belief. \u00a0The journalists who act shocked about this might as well begin the\u00a0conversation\u00a0by stating \u2018I, for one, know\u00a0absolutely\u00a0nothing\u00a0about\u00a0religion or religious belief.\u2019 <\/p>\n

On CNN, Roland Martin lashed out at this in a way that defines the pro-abortion vs. anti-abortion mentalities. \u00a0He asked if your daughter was raped, would you want her to keep the baby? \u00a0How you answer shows how you will see Mourdock\u2019s statement. \u00a0Of course I would. \u00a0A person in favor of abortion rights might not. \u00a0Therein lies the difference. But being outraged that Mourdock has said such a thing means you are simply outraged that 1) people\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0 hold to your view of human life, 2) you are outraged that people have\u00a0religious\u00a0beliefs about God that you don\u2019t hold, or 3) a combination thereof.<\/p>\n

FWIW, I suspect the\u00a0~~committee\u00a0to reelect Obama<\/strike> media will push this into the light to take attention away from the~~ unfolding Libya debacle<\/a>, and to press Romney into saying something stupid that could further alienate pro-life voters who are already\u00a0suspicious\u00a0about Romney\u2019s pro-life credentials. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
