Who is down on his luck. \u00a0As I\u2019ve posted many times before, it\u2019s been anything but an easy go of it since we came into the Church. \u00a0Right at first, it looked promising as if God had opened up an entirely new life for us. \u00a0But things unraveled fast, and it\u2019s been mostly this:<\/p>\n
ever since.<\/p>\n
Now my wife has lost her job, and I\u2019ve only been able to obtain temp jobs myself. \u00a0Savings are all but gone, and we have no credit rating that will allow for loans. \u00a0The only things left are\u00a0foreclosure, \u00a0bankruptcy, \u00a0and homelessness. <\/p>\n
Those who are not Catholic and who have long wondered about the wisdom (much less the theology) of our decision are a growing level of pity with a mix of \u2018told you so\u2019. \u00a0Even our kids have begun to say \u2018you know Dad, back when we were Protestant, the sun seemed to shine brighter, the flowers bloom larger, the breeze blow gentler \u2013 and then we became Catholic and\u00a0everything\u00a0went to hell.\u2019 \u00a0We have been able to point to\u00a0individual\u00a0examples of overwhelming graciousness, generosity, and kindness. \u00a0But as a Church, as an\u00a0institution\u00a0 it\u2019s been crickets and silence. <\/p>\n
Many are shocked that the Church has given us nothing in terms of a position or some level of\u00a0employment. \u00a0Not, as I\u2019m reminded, that the Church owes me anything. \u00a0I\u2019ve read many Catholic bloggers remind me that the Church doesn\u2019t owe us jack. \u00a0And that\u2019s true. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t. \u00a0But fact is, we\u2019re desperate, and we\u2019re becoming scared. \u00a0As one of my sons pointed out, it would be easier if across the parish, we saw families all losing everything and giving up everything for the faith. \u00a0Instead, they see youth taking trips to Italy and going on weekend retreats and going to parties at people\u2019s houses while they are left watching what little we have evaporate. \u00a0I\u2019m afraid it\u2019s beginning to strain their faith, at least their faith that becoming Catholic was what God wanted.<\/p>\n
So with that, a prayer and a request. \u00a0Please pray that by the end of the year, we still have a home. \u00a0Second, if anyone knows anyone in Central Ohio that might hire. \u00a0I\u2019ve gone to many Catholic agencies and organizations throughout the diocese, but they typically want tech-specific jobs. \u00a0My wife and I have both applied many times to positions through the diocese itself, but as of yet, have not even spoken with anyone (the thanks but no thanks letters becoming a file unto themselves). \u00a0The the fact that despite dozens of contacts and applications, having spoken to not one\u00a0individual\u00a0despite, in some cases,\u00a0overwhelming\u00a0credentials, there is a possibility of things we don\u2019t want to consider.<\/p>\n
Be that as it may, our most urgent request is that someone in\u00a0Central\u00a0Ohio let us know of someone Catholic (or otherwise) who might be willing to hire a broken down former\u00a0Protestant\u00a0minister or his wife. \u00a0We\u2019re not picky at this point, and have applied for jobs the likes of which I haven\u2019t done since college. \u00a0Of course a filthy rich Catholic with millions of dollars burning a hole in his or her pocket is just as good. \u00a0But on the whole, we would prefer to work and earn our keep, even if to show everyone that becoming Catholic didn\u2019t mean the end of everything we had with no help from the Church we joined. \u00a0So thanks in advance, and please feel free to email me of any information, or send this to anyone who might be able to help. \u00a0God bless.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
