Every time\u00a0the government does something, or suggests something, or tries to do something to help people, or give advice, is not cause for sounding alarms and yelling the Russians are coming! \u00a0It\u2019s not the footsteps of those Nazi Communists, those\u00a0Fascists\u00a0Socialists, those KGB\u00a0Gestapo\u00a0agents, or any such thing. <\/p>\n
I say that because\u00a0this\u00a0morning I happened to catch the FOX morning show. \u00a0I\u2019m not a fan of FOX. \u00a0I\u2019m not much of a fan of any television news organization, since I more or less have resigned myself to the fact that most national media is simply propaganda without the\u00a0cheesy\u00a0posters. \u00a0Still, I try to catch different shows now and again just to see what\u2019s happening. \u00a0And lo and behold, there was the FOX morning trio, lamenting our\u00a0government\u00a0trying\u00a0to tell families how to eat. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s right, Big Brother all the way! \u00a0The\u00a0government\u00a0was trying to tell families to eat according to the guidelines set forth in the modern school menus. \u00a0Now, you can disagree with\u00a0the\u00a0guidelines all you want. \u00a0And I\u2019m the first to say we\u2019re losing the art of living in our age, as everything except sex, drugs, and bathroom humor is redefined as somehow dangerous to everyone and\u00a0therefore\u00a0worthy of elimination. \u00a0Gone are cupcakes, candies, and meals kids like, in are salads, veggies, and mandated health food. \u00a0OK, debate. \u00a0Fair enough.<\/p>\n
But it stands to reason that if the government thinks this is a good idea (no matter how bad it is), there will be attempts to convey those guidelines to everyone. \u00a0Why\u00a0do I think that? \u00a0 Because it\u2019s what the government does. \u00a0We want a government to look out for our own interests. \u00a0We expect\u00a0the\u00a0government to say \u2018you know, owning slaves is bad, so we want folks to stop owning slaves.\u2019 \u00a0Likewise, if there is something good for you, even if it turns out otherwise, we\u00a0expect\u00a0the government to support promoting such behaviors or ideas. \u00a0And I don\u2019t think, I know it\u2019s been doing such things for ages.\u00a0Case in point:<\/p>\n
That was an old show produced by Michigan State University back when I was little, and shown on PBS. \u00a0That\u2019s right, on public television, a show designed to teach kids the\u00a0nutritious\u00a0way to eat, shown in our schools, with the idea that we would take the information back home to Mom and Dad. \u00a0I was in\u00a0kindergarten, which puts me getting the government\u00a0initiative\u00a0in the socialist\u00a0fascist\u00a0days of the Nixon\u00a0administration\u00a0sometime in the years 1972\/1973. <\/p>\n
Again, not that the old four food groups we were taught about were right (apparently they weren\u2019t). \u00a0Or it\u2019s not to say the latest initiative is right. \u00a0If the last forty years are any indicators, my guess is the latest will be seen as obsolete down the\u00a0road\u00a0 \u00a0But it isn\u2019t a vast\u00a0government\u00a0conspiracy to control our lives. \u00a0The more you cry wolf, the less likely it is people will believe you when the wolf finally arrives. \u00a0There are plenty of things to concern ourselves over when it comes to the crushing of freedoms and the eradication of non-sexually based liberties. \u00a0Running\u00a0around\u00a0yelling \u2018Big Brother\u2019 every time anything associated with the government so much as sneezes is a sure way to get people to ignore you once the truly alarming proposals begin to roll onto the stage.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
