Over at Unequally Yoked, Ms. Libresco is throwing in her two cents<\/a>\u00a0about this whole trend nowadays of looking to some scientific basis for ethics. \u00a0I\u2019m shocked that there is any shock. \u00a0This is, after all, the logical\u00a0consequence of where we\u2019ve come and how we got here. \u00a0 By now, the facade, the lie, the joke that was post-war liberalism should be known to all. \u00a0There was never, ever any desire for a nation where everyone is free to think what they want, believe what they want, say what they want, and do what they want. \u00a0That was a sales pitch. <\/p>\n

Today, we are seeing those who once championed the age of relative truth and complete\u00a0openness\u00a0to all ideas, being the same ones willing to cheer and celebrate when the government steps in and attempts to crush the right to not be liberal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, in the\u00a0heyday\u00a0of the\u00a0liberal\u00a0promise,\u00a0the\u00a0idea that there was no normal, no truth, no real objective morality was the blank check with which the left cashed in its various beliefs and standards. \u00a0It was the oxygen upon which the entire gay rights movement sucked away in order to validate the elimination of humanity\u2019s ages\u2019s old\u00a0belief\u00a0about sexuality. \u00a0You think homosexuality isn\u2019t normal? \u00a0Who\u2019s to say what is normal? Capt. Pierce asks Frank Burns in\u00a0 an early MASH episode<\/a>\u00a0dedicated\u00a0to promoting gay rights. \u00a0Note well that in that episode, as well as most defenses of homosexuality back then, it was not that there is a gene that makes gay the same as being Asian or African, nor was it the idea that heterosexual procreative sex is only seen as normal because of a vast, homophobic\u00a0conspiracy. \u00a0It was simply based on the idea that all truth is\u00a0relative. \u00a0What is normal after all? <\/p>\n

Now, of course, that idea has passed. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Because those who once said such things can now smell the milk at the finish line. \u00a0They can taste the banquet of political power and influence. \u00a0They hold domination in many of our\u00a0institutions\u00a0that control the narrative of our civilization. \u00a0And with such power, the last thing they want is a nation of open minded debate, and respect for those who fail to conform to their own dogmas and absolute truths which, increasingly, they can now enforce.<\/p>\n

The problem, of course, is that those old time liberals had pretty much obliterated\u00a0the\u00a0idea of absolute truths. Since evertying is relative, and we sure can\u2019t appeal to personal opionion (Archie Bunker) or \u2013 chuckle \u2013 religious dogmas to support our truth claims (Stereotypical Fundamentalist Religious Zealot\/Inquisitor), where is the good liberal seeking to impose his or her values on the world to go? \u00a0The answer is obvious: Science!<\/p>\n

Yes, it\u2019s the idea that if we make a truth claim, it isn\u2019t that we want to impose our values, it\u2019s that we have to impose our values. \u00a0We don\u2019t want to start telling people how they can eat, but science has proven that in 20 years everyone is going to be so fat that the world blows up, and we can\u2019t have that. \u00a0And science also shows that spanking kids leads to Nazis, that not celebrating homosexual lifestyles causes homosexuals to kill themselves, and that not being liberal is likely to cause the universe to implode and all life as we know it to vanish at the speed of light. \u00a0So you see, it isn\u2019t as if there really is some \u2018objective moral truth\u2019 we\u2019re appealing to, it\u2019s just that the clear and obvious\u00a0science\u00a0shows there\u2019s only one acceptable option, and it just happens coincidently to be that view I hold. \u00a0 In other words, we don\u2019t want to have to mandate conformity to our indepsutable values, but we owe it to you.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
