Yesterday is what they call a full rich day. \u00a0The Galion\u00a0Invitational, one of the biggest invitationals in the season, was staged on a\u00a0perfect\u00a0near-fall day. It was sunny and cool with a slight breeze. \u00a0I had to arrive before 8:00 AM and wouldn\u2019t leave until almost 4:00 PM. \u00a0 First up was my 8th grader, fresh from qualifying for the Varsity race. \u00a0There were some who didn\u2019t think he belonged, and being kids, made that clear. \u00a0Well, a personal record breaking race later, he had silenced all doubters, beating two others on the varsity team, and outrunning the students who had been bumped from the varsity lineup by over 10 seconds. \u00a0He scored for the team and helped kick them up a place for the overall\u00a0performance. \u00a0Though he didn\u2019t reach his timed goal, it was the only thing he didn\u2019t do. \u00a0Now\u00a0firmly\u00a0in the\u00a0varsity\u00a0lineup, he is looking forward to using this stellar performance as a\u00a0springboard.<\/p>\n

Next up in the afternoon was my oldest. \u00a0Now he has struggled in high school cross country. \u00a0For reasons known only to the coach, our team does not compete against other schools on any one-on-one races. \u00a0He simply books every Saturday in the fall for one invitational after another. \u00a0My oldest, even when he was second on the team in middle school, never did as well in the overwhelming crowds at invitationals. \u00a0So an entire sports program that focuses on his weak spot has not helped him. \u00a0Nonetheless, he had his goals. \u00a0He had hoped to PR (personal record), but alas, it was not to be. \u00a0He did beat his previous time by a hefty margin, and given that he was coming off a bad virus that had kept him out of school for several days, that wasn\u2019t bad. \u00a0Still, he wasn\u2019t happy, and is already gearing up to come out swinging next Saturday. <\/p>\n

All in all a great day. \u00a0We wrapped up the night eating pizza and watching the original\u00a0Frankenstein\u00a0<\/i>with our youngest. \u00a0Then once he was in bed, we popped some corn, ate some\u00a0caramel\u00a0apples, drank some apple cider, and enjoyed 1982\u2019s Poltergeist<\/i>. \u00a0With the crisp autumn-like air, and in fact Fall being around the corner, it got us in the mood for the festivities to come.<\/p>\n
