Yes, the saint of the day is Gregory the Great, pope and doctor of the Church and beloved pioneer of Church chants that bear his name.\u00a0 He is one of the four great doctors of the Church.\u00a0 According to accounts, he emptied the papal treasury to ransom prisoners of the Lombards.\u00a0 He is said to have removed unworthy priests from office, and forbade taking money for many services.\u00a0 He also is believed to have cared for persecuted Jews.\u00a0 Leaders like Gregory the Great are hard to come by.\u00a0 More of his kind could only help today, though I wonder how popular he would be.\u00a0 Still, on this day, it\u2019s worth a listen if you have some chant.\u00a0 Especially since there are some who, like all ages, feel the best thing to do for the Church is to abandon that pesky 2000 year old ancient stuff and embrace the latest, hippest that our wonderfully enlightened culture has to offer.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
