For a time, times and half a time.\u00a0 Anyway, what follows are some links to things that have caught my attention, a few comments, and an update.\u00a0 The update first.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been plowing forward in my second of two jobs, which when combined with my first, is still unable to provide the sparsest sustenance.\u00a0 My wife is currently looking for gainful employment, but still nothing.\u00a0 The toughest part is that for the underpay and no real upward potential, my schedule is such that I will miss entire swaths of my boys\u2019 life this year.\u00a0 If it was enough even\u00a0to get by on, I could handle that.\u00a0 If it was for some grand purpose, OK.\u00a0 But for a job scarcely making it, that pill goes down tough.\u00a0 Especially as there is no way we are gaining any means to help my oldest prepare for college, or even make some necessary \u2013 and safety oriented \u2013 repairs around the house.\u00a0\u00a0 Oh, and I won\u2019t even discuss our garden this year.\u00a0 So much for saving money that way.<\/p>\n
Needless to say, I\u2019m not the happiest.\u00a0 After almost seven years of trying to make myself available within the diocese, I have concluded that there is no need \u2013 or want \u2013 of my services.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been told by no less than three priests that putting \u2018former Protestant clergy\u2019 on my resume is probably the issue.\u00a0 Like it or no, attitudes about the Great Protestant Clergy\u00a0Conversion (TM)\u00a0have cooled in recent years.\u00a0 I\u2019ve known for some time that the numbers have diminished, that being logical given the economic factors of our time.\u00a0 But it\u2019s clear at this point that the Church in our neck of the woods, if not the Church universal, has little interest at this point in putting former clergy converts to work (except for the Anglican Communion, but that\u2019s another story).\u00a0 That\u2019s just a fact.\u00a0 It\u2019s not good or evil, right or wrong.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fact, and one I must accept.\u00a0 Waiting for that dream position that would utilize my years of schooling, training, and experience as a former member of the clergy, while having some position that might help us financially, is akin to waiting for Rush Limbaugh to vote for President Obama.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Therefore, I\u2019ve moved on, though the economic fact of our age, as so many other Americans are aware of, is hindering our ability to even keep up, much less make it with anything to spare.\u00a0 So these last weeks, and likely the upcoming weeks (months?) will find me working, looking, searching, and looking some more in the hopes of taking care of my family \u2013 the only vocation I have left.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see.\u00a0 But during this time, I\u2019m afraid I won\u2019t have much time, and will only be able to swing by on random and sparse occasions to blog.\u00a0 So here are a few of the things I saw.\u00a0 Enjoy, and I hope everyone is doing well, getting by, and making it if not more so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
