The things you find on the Internet.\u00a0 So I was getting ready to do my part in discussing the Lord\u2019s Prayer for RCIA.\u00a0 Well, we didn\u2019t get around to it.\u00a0 But in my searching around for inspiration, I stumbled across this musical take on the Lord\u2019s Prayer from the early 1970s:<\/p>\n
The funny thing about this is, I\u2019ve wondered about that tune all my life.\u00a0 Since I became Christian, I\u2019ve heard various musical\u00a0versions of the Lord\u2019s Prayer, including one version set to music that I\u2019ve heard when we recite the Our Father during Mass.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve wondered all along if this was just in my imagination or not, since I never, ever heard it at any time in my Christian life.<\/p>\n
One reason that something I\u2019ve not found (until now) was there buzzing about my recollections had to do with how I linked it in my childhood memories.\u00a0 I distinctly remembered sitting and listening to it one day in first grade.\u00a0 The reason it stuck there against all evidence that I might have imagined the tune, is because that day I had come home from school after watching a film at an assembly.\u00a0 That film was a dramatization about two little girls who get in a car with a stranger after the stranger gives them candy.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
It was an educational film meant to teach us the dangers of getting near strangers.\u00a0 The girls are taken to an isolated spot and quickly dispatched.\u00a0 One girl fleeing for her life manages to hide in a drain pipe, only to be found and murdered.\u00a0 The film ended with actual raw footage of the two girls\u2019 bodies being taken away by the police, the girls I supposed upon which the story was based. <\/p>\n
Again, this was the early 1970s.\u00a0 This was when the scariest thing a kid like me was exposed to happened to be the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz<\/em>.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure that today such a\u00a0film would go in one eye and out the other for most kids.\u00a0 But in the innocent days of early 70s grade school, it left a mark on me I never shook.\u00a0 And because it was so depressing to watch, coming home and hearing this song always equated the Lord\u2019s Prayer \u2013 in my own mind at least \u2013 with a little sadness.\u00a0 <\/p>\n Now I know it wasn\u2019t just some fanciful recreation in my mind.\u00a0 It really did happen.\u00a0 The song was really published, and in fact, apparently, was quite a hit.\u00a0 And to this day I shy from getting into cars with strangers, adult that I am.\u00a0 I was going to connect this all with taking a fresh look at the Lord\u2019s Prayer.\u00a0 But at least for me, it showed me that some of these old memories may have more basis in reality than I thought.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The things you find on the Internet.\u00a0 So I was getting ready to do my part in discussing the Lord\u2019s Prayer for RCIA.\u00a0 Well, we didn\u2019t get around to it.\u00a0 But in my searching around for inspiration, I stumbled across this musical take on the Lord\u2019s Prayer from the early 1970s: The funny thing about […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2805,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2698","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"\n
