But such is the legacy of Catholicism.\u00a0 I\u2019m not one with a pie-in-the-sky take on Catholic History.\u00a0 More than once the \u2018Catholic Church\u2019 has zigged when it should have zagged.\u00a0 More than once it decided based on whatever it was influenced by, either for the wrong reasons, or for the right reasons advocating something ultimately disastrous.\u00a0 Hence the troubled periods of its history.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m reminded of this as I read an article<\/a> showing the the US Catholic Bishops have sided with \u2013 wait for it \u2013 the Obama Administration on its legal assault against Arizona over that state\u2019s immigration laws.\u00a0 The case, the mandate, the difficulties are very complex and there\u2019s no clear indicator that any one side is altogether correct.\u00a0 What is more disturbing is the Federal Government\u2019s willingness to drop like an anvil on the state at the front lines of the immigration breakdown in our country.\u00a0 And yet, never ones to learn a lesson, the Bishops have once more said they\u2019re on board with the Administration as long as it pans out for their own cause.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Standing on principle maybe? Perhaps.\u00a0 But as history clearly teaches, there\u2019s a right way, a wrong way, and a stupid way.\u00a0 Fool me once is usually good enough.\u00a0 Apparently, it will take a few more lessons for the Bishops to learn (assuming that, apart from the HHS mandate, they have any desire at all to learn it).<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
