It can be done. For the record, I spent the first 45 years of my life oblivious to the fact that Jay Mohr exists. But apparently, wanting to get his name in the news, he decided to jump on the Bill Maher bandwagon<\/a> and spew some good old Nazi-humor at Christians. By now, most have heard of Maher\u2019s Phelps-inspired rant against Tim Tebow. Nothing new, original, or different there. The earth\u2019s orbit around the sun is less predictable than Maher\u2019s tired old routine. But then Mr. Mohr jumps in and tries to add, well, something to the dialogue.\u00a0 He \u2013 hold on for it \u2013 calls Christians \u2018idiots\u2019 for wanting to boycott HBO over Maher\u2019s comments: <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that would be great Christians, except there\u2019s nothing to boycott, there\u2019s no commercials, you idiot,\u201d he chuckled. \u201c\u2018Let me tell you something, HBO,\u2019\u201d he continued, as if he was someone boycotting the company, \u201c\u2018I\u2019m not buying any products you advertise. I\u2019m not drinking Minute Maid orange juice, I\u2019m not going to use the tricky ladder\u2013 the three-in-one ladder you advertise.\u2019\u201d
\u201cThere are no commercials you moron, it\u2019s HBO Christians!\u201d he yelled. \u201cAnd I\u2019m speaking as a Christian.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The funny part? Nobody is actually calling for a \u2018boycott\u2019 of HBO in that sense. They are simply calling on people to do like I do, and not subscribe to a cable network wishing for a return to pre-Christian barbarism. I never took a cable package that included HBO, and have no intention of doing so now. But so off the wall vacant was his rant, even the writer of the news article is left wondering:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unclear what boycott Mohr was specifically referencing or why he said Christians were going after HBO advertisers. The movement across Twitter<\/span><\/u><\/a> and other places<\/span><\/u><\/a> has referenced boycotting HBO in general, not necessarily a call for a movement against HBO sponsors.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But then, the general audience of shows like Maher\u2019s, and apparently Mohr\u2019s, doesn\u2019t exactly lend itself to sweating over such things as facts and reality. Some sex, drugs, and the ability to abort babies for better orgasms is about all they probably care to process. <\/p>\n

FWIW, his little \u2018I\u2019m speaking as a Christian\u2019 is about as worthless as anything can be worthless. Assuming it\u2019s true, and I\u2019ll take him at his word (being the only evidence I can imagine accepting for assuming it\u2019s true), it\u2019s more of an embarrassment than anything, and another reminder that it\u2019s not just the Fred Phelps of the world who make a mockery of religion in general, and Christianity in particular.\u00a0 And not only that, but making it look like the domain of idiots when he goes off on a rant about something that isn\u2019t even happening. Sigh. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
