\n| Less of a myth than we\u2019ve been taught, and something worth thinking on this holiday season.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n I\u2019ll be out of here until Monday.\u00a0 Since bringing things back, I\u2019ve been pleased with the number of visits.\u00a0 Things have definitely picked up in the last few weeks.\u00a0 Nice to have folks stopping by.\u00a0 Please feel free to comment.\u00a0 I have thick skin, and don\u2019t mind hearing from folks.\u00a0 I learn best when I read thoughtful comments from guests who point out this or that flaw in my posts.\u00a0 In the meantime, enjoy this holiday of thanksgiving.\u00a0 It really is a time to remember how much we have to be thankful for. A time that brings back memories of making pumpkin pie and hand turkeys in kindergarten.\u00a0 Of band concerts before being let out early from school on Wednesday. Of rabbit hunting with my Dad.\u00a0 Of snow outside and steamed up windows from the cooking on the inside. Of family over and traveling to Mom and Dad\u2019s when my own family was still so young. <\/p>\n I have to admit, it\u2019ll seem tough.\u00a0 After all, my Dad died earlier this year.\u00a0 My mother just lost the next to last member of her family.\u00a0 My sister\u2019s life has all but unraveled.\u00a0 And things have been hard for my boys in school.\u00a0 They\u2019re good kids, and do well in school.\u00a0 They do very well.\u00a0 But they are, well, different.\u00a0 We raise them to be different.\u00a0 We try to impress upon them the need to put their faith first.\u00a0 Plus, call me cynical, but I also try to let them see the shallowness of our pop culture and our society as a whole.\u00a0 As a result, our boys are sort of a Casablanca<\/em> bunch in an Avatar<\/em> world.\u00a0 And in our society, where texting, IPads, and CGI saturated movies are all the rage, sometimes they walk a bit off kilter.\u00a0 <\/p>\nNonetheless, despite it all, we still keep to the path.\u00a0 Inspired by those who helped give us this holiday \u2013 the Pilgrims \u2013 we walk the\u00a0course.\u00a0 We seek to live free in a country founded on freedom, and seek ways to follow God that will be pleasing to Him, and aid us in our own spiritual journeys.\u00a0 Who knows, in fifty years freedom may no longer exist in this nation.\u00a0 There\u2019s certainly good cause for concern.\u00a0 But as of now, we are still free, and that\u2019s worth being thankful for.\u00a0 We are free to raise our kids as we choose, set them along the paths we choose, and enjoy the bountiful blessings of a nation graced with so many.\u00a0 What tomorrow holds may well be in our children\u2019s hands.\u00a0 But for now, we have the freedom to be what we choose to be, and that\u2019s not bad.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n So thank you Pilgrims, thank you Indians, thank you all who fought and gave the last measure of devotion for the freedoms I enjoy.\u00a0 Thank you Mom and especially you Dad, for giving me a wonderful childhood of memories.\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ll miss you this year. Thank you Dee and boys for giving me a family to rest upon when the world gets me down.\u00a0 And thank you God, for giving me life, abundance, and blessings beyond those I could ever deserve.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be back on Monday.\u00a0 May the God of blessings shower you and your loved ones with a double measure of all you need.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Less of a myth than we\u2019ve been taught, and something worth thinking on this holiday season.
