Richard Dreyfuss helps demonstrate that there are few movements more intellectually vacant, morally corrupt, or stunningly unaware of themselves than the post-modern Left.\u00a0 This is the residue of the lofty, and arrogant, ideals of the post-war liberal movement.\u00a0 Now, I am second to none in my admiration for Richard Dreyfuss as an actor.\u00a0 I grew up being touched by some of the movies he made, key films that shaped the era in which I matured.\u00a0 From American Graffiti<\/em> and Jaws<\/em>, to Close Encounters of the Third Kind,<\/em> I was awestruck by his command of acting, even before I understood what it took to be an actor.\u00a0 Later, in Down and Out in Beverly Hills<\/em>, What About Bob<\/em>, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead<\/em><\/span>, I rediscovered him and why I always admired him.<\/p>\n Later, as he became more of an activist, I listened to what he had to say.\u00a0 Obviously he was schooled in his passion for history, particularly American History.\u00a0 And the willingness to invest some sweat and blood in a subject always garners a certain level of admiration \u2013 even if I strongly disagree with the methods or conclusions.\u00a0 But in recent years, I\u2019ve noticed him saying some pretty, well, strange things.\u00a0 Even stupid ones.\u00a0 Ones that I get the feeling are more demonstrative of the failings of post-modern Leftist ideologies than many might\u00a0care to admit. <\/p>\n So in the wake of the Tuscon Shootings that had nothing to do with politics or political rhetoric, we are still discussing the need to tone down our political rhetoric.\u00a0 Many \u2013 especially on the Left \u2013 have made it clear who is to blame.\u00a0 Those on the Right have obviously launched counter attacks to defend themselves.\u00a0 In the midst of this, at The National Press Club, Mr. Dreyfuss is asked if the statements by individuals on the Left could sink to the same deplorable level of hateful violent rhetoric, by being given the example of Ed Schultz\u2019s wish for the death of Dick Cheney.\u00a0\u00a0Schultz\u2019s statement is at the end of the video:<\/p>\n Essentially, Mr. Dreyfuss says, \u201cSure, no problem.\u00a0 It was beautifully\u00a0phrased.\u201d\u00a0 Well, if you listen to Schultz\u2019s statement at the end, you\u2019ll notice there was nothing beautiful about it.\u00a0 In a manner that makes Rush Limbaugh sound tame, he expressed his\u00a0hatred for Cheney, his loathing for Cheney, then capped it off by saying \u2018Lord take him\u00a0to the promised land\u2026I don\u2019t\u00a0care if he goes to hell, just get him the hell out of here.\u2019\u00a0 OK, for the record, I\u2019ve never heard Rush Limbaugh wish death on anyone.\u00a0 Maybe he has.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve not heard it.\u00a0 So what about this isn\u2019t hateful, violent rhetoric?\u00a0 That it was couched in \u2018flowery speech\u2019?\u00a0 That\u2019s not very flowery, if you ask me.\u00a0 So what is it?<\/p>\n To me, it is indicative of the problems with the Post-Modern Left.\u00a0 Essentially, the Post-Modern Left\u00a0has become a shadowy reflection of all that liberals once said they hated about the old conservative status-quo.\u00a0 There just seems to be a lack of ability to see it.\u00a0 Perhaps it\u2019s his age.\u00a0 After all, Mr Dreyfuss is no spring chicken.\u00a0 And maybe that\u2019s why many Boomer liberals are so blind to the rage, hatred, violence, and death that surrounds the emergent Left.<\/p>\n My guess is, however, that the reason so many on the Left continue to spiral into a mockery of what they once condemned is that\u00a0the\u00a0Post-Modern Left\u00a0has no accountability.\u00a0 With our educational institutions, entertainment institutions, and media institutions almost all aligned along\u00a0the same\u00a0ideological side of the field, there is no real taking to task of one another for such things.\u00a0 Heck, I heard about what Schultz said one night on Fox when it covered\u00a0Mr. Dreyfuss\u2019s answer.\u00a0 I\u00a0hadn\u2019t even heard of it before.\u00a0 No other networks covered it.\u00a0 There was no outcry.\u00a0 Not like when Rush Limbaugh mocked Michael J. Fox.\u00a0 Or when Rush Limbaugh played a mock-up song of Barack the Magic Negro, or that he wished President Obama would fail.\u00a0 Or when Bill O\u2019Reilly said that Muslims were to blame for 9\/11.\u00a0 When those things were said, I heard about it\u00a0on most stations.\u00a0 I heard discussions, debates, and condemnations across the board.\u00a0 And I heard about it for days.\u00a0 If not weeks.\u00a0 Yet I didn\u2019t hear one time on any network (perhaps it was mentioned, but could only have been mentioned once or twice), about Mr. Schultz\u2019s scree on Cheney.<\/p>\n That\u2019s the point.\u00a0 There is no accountability.\u00a0 And therefore, through intellectual laziness and ethical foppishness, those on the Left are becoming the very things they once said they hated the most about America\u2019s old status-quo: arrogance, self-righteousness, judgementalism, meanness, hatefulness, intolerance, closed-mindedness, and basic group think.\u00a0 And while age may have something to do with it, with the younger generations simply pushing the envelope as younger generations do, I can\u2019t help but think that this compound mentality that the Left has established, by essentially marginalizing or ostracizing any who fail to\u00a0conform to the dogmas of the Left, has led to such\u00a0jaw dropping examples of complete idiocy and lack of self awareness that\u00a0Richard Dreyfuss\u00a0just displayed, and that Ed Schultz continues to make a career of.<\/p>\n Again none of this is personal.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know Ed Schultz and, based on what I\u2019ve seen, have no desire to know him.\u00a0 I don\u2019t personally know Mr. Dreyfuss, but I\u2019ve always been a fan.\u00a0 And as a former liberal who didn\u2019t leave liberalism as much as I realized liberalism had never truly existed, it pains me to see such a man, who no doubt cares and is passionate about some important things, decay into the very things\u00a0liberals once so clearly saw and condemned.\u00a0 Truly, when looking from one to another, it is increasingly difficult to tell the pigs from the men.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Richard Dreyfuss helps demonstrate that there are few movements more intellectually vacant, morally corrupt, or stunningly unaware of themselves than the post-modern Left.\u00a0 This is the residue of the lofty, and arrogant, ideals of the post-war liberal movement.\u00a0 Now, I am second to none in my admiration for Richard Dreyfuss as an actor.\u00a0 I grew […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2805,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3665","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"\n
