So Paul LePage, governor of Maine, announced he would not be attending a worship service<\/strike> breakfast in commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. day.\u00a0 This failure to conform and venerate the absolute values of modern Righthink brought the expected attacks and criticisms.\u00a0 For younger folks, that might have seemed a bit over the top.\u00a0 Of course they\u00a0probably forget that this holiday was initiated pretty much with a foot on the neck of our culture, with threats of protest and walk outs and boycotts accompanying any who didn\u2019t freely choose to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Governor LePage\u2019s\u00a0reaction was, well, stunning.\u00a0 He basically said that critics, including those in the NAACP, could \u2013 and I quote \u2013 \u201ckiss [his] butt.\u201d\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Not only failing to venerate Dr. King as all Americans are compelled<\/strike> asked to do, but then such a brutal response to the usual\u00a0criticism?\u00a0 Well, that lasted as long as you might expect in our day and age.\u00a0 Turns out he went to the breakfast after all.<\/a>\u00a0 He didn\u2019t speak, but with tail planted firmly between legs, he demonstrated the truth about our modern rhetoric.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t just that it can get nasty.\u00a0 It\u2019s that it is no longer used to persuade people.\u00a0 Rather, it is used to force people into conformity of an absolute values system that refuses to admit it is an absolute values system.\u00a0 And that will get a reaction every time.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
