Meanwhile, I\u2019ll leave you with this little anecdote.\u00a0 Even though when I was growing up I tried a couple sports here and there, I was never what you would call a natural athlete.\u00a0 Part of it was an almost embarrassing lack of competitiveness. I was always ready to go straight to surrender.\u00a0 So it is somewhat nice that a couple of my boys have picked up on sports.\u00a0 For those who haven\u2019t, I\u2019m fine with that.\u00a0 Whatever they want to do, I hope to support each one with the same enthusiasm.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Nonetheless, our third boy is quite the athlete.\u00a0 Not that he\u2019s the best.\u00a0 He often doesn\u2019t know much about sports, owing to my own lack of interest.\u00a0 But he is a natural. You can just tell.\u00a0 Even if he doesn\u2019t know, he has that knack.\u00a0 That \u2018even without anything to go with, he can still run with the big dogs\u2019 ability.\u00a0 Be it soccer, gymnastics, football, or even roller skating.\u00a0 Yes, roller skating.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

I skate about as well as I spit, so there haven\u2019t been too many excursions to either ice or roller rinks.\u00a0 A couple years ago, we took the family to the Columbus Zoo lights and holiday festivities.\u00a0 One of the attractions was a little ice skating rink.\u00a0 We decided to give it a try.\u00a0 I promptly fell down and had my hand run over by some Dorothy Hamill want to be.\u00a0 After sitting in the first aid station, I realized why this wasn\u2019t my cup of tea.\u00a0 Therefore, before today, my son had never donned a pair of roller skates in his life.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

So what happens? One of his friends also had a birthday today, and threw a party at a local roller skating rink (apparently roller skating rinks outlasted the disco era despite what the choice of music would suggest). After falling down 800 hundred times, one time of which would pretty much have ended my week, he began to get alone well.\u00a0 Then they had a skating limbo contest and who do you think won?\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Of the two dozen or so participants, many who were obviously regulars, he actually came out the winner.\u00a0 Whether because of training in gymnastics or the flexibility that earned him the nickname \u2018Gumby\u2019 in football, he was able to go pretty darn low.\u00a0 The brat.\u00a0 Yeah, he\u2019s that good.\u00a0 I can\u2019t help but admit I do envy my his and my boys\u2019 abilities sometimes.\u00a0 And sometimes, that pretty nice.\u00a0 In any event, that was the fun today.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure there\u2019s going to be more.\u00a0 So see ya!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
