Is looked at in this piece<\/a>.\u00a0After a week long implosion by Trump, it\u2019s worth stepping back and reorganizing our thinking. \u00a0Most who support Trump are either those deplorables who see in Trump a validation for their unacceptable prejudices, or the larger\u00a0group that\u00a0begrudgingly supports Trump because they believe the alternative is far worse. \u00a0They admit to all of Trump\u2019s foibles, they acknowledge there is no way to understand Trump\u2019s incoherent ramblings about policy, they simply fear that four more years of the Left monopolizing power and propaganda \u00a0in our nation will push their kind closer and closer to the closets and the catacombs. Certainly the most chillingly\u00a0accurate selection from the piece is this:<\/p>\n

Who, a generation ago, could have guessed that careers and social standing could be ruined by stating the fact that the paramount influence on the earth\u2019s climate is the sun, that its output of energy varies and with it the climate? Who, a decade ago, could have predicted that stating that marriage is the union of a man and a woman would be treated as a culpable sociopathy, or just yesterday that refusing to let certifiably biological men into women\u2019s bathrooms would disqualify you from mainstream society? Or that saying that the lives of white people \u201cmatter\u201d as much as those of blacks is evidence of racism? These strictures came about quite simply because some sectors of the ruling class felt like inflicting them on the rest of America. Insulting presumed inferiors proved to be even more important to the ruling class than the inflictions\u2019 substance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You\u2019d think it was another country, or a vicious lie, until you shook your head, splashed water on your face, and realized it was real. \u00a0And it was us. \u00a0The US. \u00a0If Trump could, or even would, thwart\u00a0such trends is unlikely. \u00a0And given the compromises that must happen for conservatives and people of traditional faith to support him, I can\u2019t help but think it\u2019s not worth the chance. \u00a0After all, how much Trump took part in, and advanced, the very things decried by conservatives can only be guessed.<\/p>\n
