<\/iframe>\n<\/p><p>and<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"John Lennon - So this is christmas with lyrics\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/prlf5y5iRv0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>I\u2019ve always loved these two songs, especially when put in juxtaposition with one another. \u00a0Classic Lennon\/McCartney. \u00a0About as good a contrast as you get since Strawberry Fields Forever\/Penny Lane.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also me. \u00a0And, I think, the basic gist of the Faith. \u00a0Nothing wrong with happiness and cheer. \u00a0But let\u2019s not forget the scary ghost stories. \u00a0While the rest of the country is packing up the decorations and putting leftovers in the discount bin, for us it\u2019s just beginning.<\/p>\n<p>But it isn\u2019t only snowmen and Christmas trees and tinsel. \u00a0It\u2019s also the Feast of the Holy Innocents. \u00a0It\u2019s remembering that the Christmas story, like history itself, has its roots in good and evil, salvation and slaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Fun is fun. \u00a0But it\u2019s about more than that. \u00a0While we don\u2019t want to miss out on the chance to make good for future memories, we don\u2019t want those memories confined to what we ate or drank or even the family we share time with. \u00a0In the end, it\u2019s what we do for the least of these, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/daffeythoughts\/2016\/12\/hear-make-america-great.html#comment-3064211608\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">as one of my readers rightly pointed out<\/a>. And the least of these are defined by their needs and their vulnerabilities, no matter what we think of them and where they stand on the latest ideological battlefield.<\/p>\n<p>So a wonderful Christmastime to all! \u00a0But make sure that next\u00a0year, we look back on more than bills, games, broken appliance and the occasional party.
