At least nine are killed in another terrorist assault<\/a>. \u00a0This time at a Christmas market in Germany. \u00a0Meanwhile, a gunman has opened fire in a Mosque in Zurich<\/a>. \u00a0And the Russian ambassador to Turkey has been assassinated<\/a>. \u00a0All in a single day. \u00a0Of course there are other violent crimes. \u00a0In our part of the world, we had our obligatory shooting on the local morning news. \u00a0And there will be others.<\/p>\n

We pray for peace on earth, not because we believe it will happen on this side of heaven. \u00a0We pray because it is our earnest desire that, against all hope, it could happen on this side of heaven. So pray we will. \u00a0Even if this holiest of seasons originated with\u00a0two such contradictory proclamations:<\/p>\n

\u201cGlory to God in the highest,<\/span>
\nAnd on earth peace, goodwill toward men!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
