I think of that Geico\u00a0commercial that promises to save me 15% or more on car insurance.<\/p>\n

I figure the gist of the commercial is \u2018we\u2019ll save you money.\u2019 \u00a0Whether they do or not is up to others to decide. \u00a0As for Trump\u2019s motto? I suppose\u00a0it means something different for different people. \u00a0 Probably it means things aren\u2019t the best now, and they weren\u2019t altogether bad then.<\/p>\n

I thought of that as I saw this again:<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/daffeythoughts\/2011\/11\/an-mtv-christmas-video.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">I posted about this some years ago.<\/a> \u00a0This is MTV. \u00a0Five years after its debut. \u00a0Not that the 80s were some puritanical age of Ozzie and Harriet. \u00a0But you have to admit, this is almost Disney like. \u00a0Already we had Madonna\u2019s stage sex, \u00a0Michael Jackson gyrating with a little selective crotch grabbing. \u00a0David Lee Roth\u2019s seatless pants. \u00a0And Prince singing about whatever it was he not so subtly sang about.<\/p>\nAnd yet this, in 1986, my second year of college, on MTV. \u00a0It felt like Romper Room<\/em>. \u00a0And I can\u2019t help but think people, when they say \u2018great again\u2019, mean something that this speaks to. \u00a0Something has gone wrong in our society. \u00a0We might not agree about what, but there were quite a few who felt something\u2019s wrong.<\/p>\nIf not a lack of Monkees MTV Christmas medleys, then something else. \u00a0Something different that we feel we\u2019ve lost or changes we feel are for the worse. \u00a0Don\u2019t know, just kicking things around. \u00a0I do know that it\u2019s weird when I happily let my youngest watch an old MTV video from my college days before I let him watch shows aimed at kids today. \u00a0Perhaps that\u2019s what people are thinking, however vaguely. \u00a0It\u2019s not that change isn\u2019t inevitable. \u00a0But it doesn\u2019t always have to last. \u00a0Unless, of course, we want it to last.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I think of that Geico\u00a0commercial that promises to save me 15% or more on car insurance.
