But here\u2019s the thing. \u00a0At what point do Conservatives have even the slightest shard of credibility left when they defend someone who, if that person simply slipped into the \u201cD\u201d column, would be denounced as the incarnation of everything Satanic and wrong about our culture?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not one to throw out condemnation of a person\u2019s inner soul, but I can also judge actions. \u00a0Mr.\u00a0Yiannopoulos, at best, seems to play the same game that Conservatives have decried for decades. \u00a0 Goldberg is correct<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0Yiannopoulos defends his offensive and deplorable (yes, I use that word on purpose) speech as \u2018provocative.\u2019 \u00a0You know, just how the hippy generation flipped one to their parents.<\/p>\n

Well, in all my years, I never heard a Conservative, Christian or otherwise, praise the counterculture warriors of the 60s for doing those things. \u00a0I don\u2019t praise them either. \u00a0Too many babies went out with the bath water, leaving us with this mess. \u00a0And conservatives were right to condemn the notion that as long as you were for the great cultural rebellion, all bets were off and\u00a0hoist the middle finger.<\/p>\n

So guess what? \u00a0Consistency. \u00a0It was wrong then, it\u2019s wrong now. \u00a0I have no clue if\u00a0Yiannopoulos was really advocating pedophilia. \u00a0I don\u2019t suppose he really pines for gas chambers or gulags either. \u00a0And yet, why wouldn\u2019t I at least assume? \u00a0 Sometimes humor is a way of disguising what we really mean. \u00a0Say it in a joking way, and use the humor to suggest you don\u2019t\u00a0mean it \u2013 but you darn well mean it. \u00a0It\u2019s not something new. \u00a0And if\u00a0Yiannopoulos isn\u2019t guilty of being a discount Nazi pedophilia defender, he deserves at least a notch over on the suspicion meter for suggesting otherwise, whatever his reasons. \u00a0Words, as they say, mean something.<\/p>\n

And Conservatives defending him? \u00a0For the love of dear God stop. \u00a0Don\u2019t become the enemy you oppose. \u00a0Forgive? \u00a0Sure. \u00a0But stop defending the worst. \u00a0If you do that, then you deserve what everyone said about those who supported Trump. \u00a0You didn\u2019t do it despite the rotten and sickening things he said and did, you supported him because of the rotten and sickening things he said. \u00a0And if you still insist you didn\u2019t? \u00a0See my observation about\u00a0Yiannopoulos above. \u00a0I\u2019ll cut some slack, but you deserve to have the gauge moved over a notch on the suspicious chart nonetheless.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
