The #ashtag controversy<\/a>. \u00a0Apparently some priests, and others, are doing selfies after receiving the ashes on Ash Wednesday. \u00a0Eh. \u00a0I\u2019m sure we could read into it, but likely most aren\u2019t thinking more than trying to use the latest to show their devotion. \u00a0 No different than being told to proudly display the ashes through the day. \u00a0Our family could typically only go at night, so it didn\u2019t usually apply to us. \u00a0But when we could go earlier, we did. \u00a0And we kept the ashes for the world to see.<\/p>\nSome things don\u2019t need to be battles. \u00a0 When the \u2018selfie-stick\u2019 came out, even my boys groaned. \u00a0What has the world come to when we have selfie-sticks? \u00a0I told them that finding ways to take pictures of ourselves is as old as cameras. \u00a0I remember a charming GE commercial when I was growing up. \u00a0It had the tagline \u2018GE, we bring good things to living; we bring good things to life.\u2019 \u00a0It showed people doing things with the help of GE products. \u00a0The final shot always lingered on a young college grad, giant grin, holding his Polaroid camera (remember those?) aimed at himself and shooting a picture in all his pride.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s nothing new. \u00a0Nor is finding new creative\u00a0to make the Faith relevant. \u00a0In a world of Social Media, where more and more that is our cultural platform for communicating, I don\u2019t see an issue. \u00a0They\u2019re just using technology to do what we\u2019re told to do in the first place. \u00a0Next thing we know, they\u2019ll be taking advantage of indoor plumbing.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
