A Good Friday reminder. \u00a0 It\u2019s easy to shout Hosanna to the Son of David when the crowd is with you. \u00a0Who will stand up and shout\u00a0for Jesus when the crowd turns\u00a0to Barabbas? \u00a0That\u2019s the big question.<\/p>\n
\u2018As soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. \u00a0Pilate asked him, \u201cAre you the King of the Jews?\u201d He answered him, \u201cYou say so.\u201d \u00a0Then the chief priests accused him of many things. \u00a0Pilate asked him again, \u201cHave you no answer? See how many charges they bring against you.\u201d \u00a0But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.<\/p>\n
Now at the festival he used to release a prisoner for them, anyone for whom they asked. Now a man called Barabbas was in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection. \u00a0So the crowd came and began to ask Pilate to do for them according to his custom. \u00a0Then he answered them, \u201cDo you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?\u201d For he realized that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed him over. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas for them instead. \u00a0Pilate spoke to them again, \u201cThen what do you wish me to do with the man you call the King of the Jews?\u201d They shouted back, \u201cCrucify him!\u201d \u00a0Pilate asked them, \u201cWhy, what evil has he done?\u201d But they shouted all the more, \u201cCrucify him!\u201d \u00a0So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.\u2019<\/p>\n
