By now we\u2019ve probably heard about Mr. Kimmel\u2019s tearful account of his child\u2019s ordeal<\/a>. \u00a0Thank God the baby is doing better.<\/p>\n

Now, Kimmel also got political, and fair is fair. \u00a0That means the positions he brought up are open to criticism. \u00a0I\u2019ve heard people\u00a0smack down rebuttals as unacceptable because of his and his child\u2019s ordeal. \u00a0But he brought politics into it, and therefore debate is on the table.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, there is a disclaimer worth mentioning. \u00a0One of the tricks to negative stereotypes is not living up to them. \u00a0There are things that the GOP can speak to about Kimmel\u2019s opinions, but going after preexisting conditions has to be one of the worst.<\/a>\u00a0 It feeds into the stereotype that modern Conservatism\u00a0is all about survival of the richest.<\/p>\n

It does no good to add to the problem by suggesting people who are sick need to pay more. \u00a0Ultimately the whole problem with America\u2019s\u00a0healthcare is cost. \u00a0It isn\u2019t accessibility. \u00a0It isn\u2019t availability. \u00a0Healthcare providers are all over the place. \u00a0Insurance in some form or another is available as well. \u00a0It\u2019s the cost. \u00a0Suggesting people who are sick \u2013 for whatever reason \u2013 should pay more because they are sick, suggests hurting people is a price we\u2019re willing to pay as opposed to finding other solutions.<\/p>\n

We won\u2019t even get into the idea that insurance companies should be free to deny coverage based on PECs. \u00a0That\u2019s not worth discussing, and one of the brighter points of the ACA was putting an end to that practice.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying we shouldn\u2019t discuss how to incorporate such coverage without hurting the insurers. \u00a0That\u2019s fair. \u00a0It simply can\u2019t be hoisted back on the insured. \u00a0Again, it\u2019s the cost. \u00a0Anything that puts more burden on the insured is an idea no longer worth pursuing. \u00a0Unless, of course, living up to negative stereotypes is the goal. \u00a0Then by all means.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
